Hi guys you may have seen my last post on buying a air arms tx200, well I had a change of heart at the last minute and got myself a Hw97kt in 177 and I think I definitely made the right choice, what a great rifle to shoulder. Picked it up today and had a few shots in the garden using some jsb exacts and it seems to like these. Now I've never shot a 97 so i don't know what they're supposed to sound or feel like to shoot but this one seems quite loud(I can hear the spring more than anything) and also there's a bit of recoil as to be expected being a springer, now this has probably been asked a thousand times on here so I do apologise in advance, I just wanted to ask is there anything I can do to the inside of the rifle to make it a bit quieter with a bit less recoil? Money is tight at the moment so I won't be buying any kits to go in it for a while but I've read polishing the internals might be an option? Any advice would be very appreciated, cheers guys

Make up a spring sleeve too.

Maybe take off the bear trap as its crap and rattles. Only stops you pulling the trigger but when cocking/loading your finger sbouldnt be near the trigger anyway.

Check the piston lever for cracks at the piston shoe end. If any cracks replace it. Mine broke as i was cocking it. Squeaky bum moment.

The quality went right down hill on those 97s when Weihrauch moved some of there production to China :whistling:

Nice rifles mate - you did well by trying before you purchased

Just copied and pasted this from a pm i sent to guy

Just remember to polish

the piston

chamber the piston sits in

spring ends (even if new)

top hat if one is fitted some are plastic so dose not need polished

DO NOT TAKE TO MUCH OFF THE CHAMBER AS THIS MAY FECK THE RIFLE

I USE AUTO SOL FOR THE POLISHING OF ALL THE INTERNALS

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

GLOVES

SAFETY GLASSES

AUTO SOL (ANY CAR SHOP WILL HAVE IT)

BUFFING PAD THE SORT THAT FITS IN A DRILL OR BENCH GRINDER

GUN LUBE (ITS LIKE AN OIL) THIS IS FOR WHEN YOU PUT IT BACK TOGETHER

GUN GREASE (FOR THE SPRING)

RIGHT

PUT THE AUTO SOL ON THE PART THAT IS TO BE POLISHED AND NOT THE BUFFING PAD

AND SET THE WHEEL AWAY AND RUN THE PART ACROSS THE WHEEL UNTIL IT GO,S BLACK

THEN GET AN OLD CLOTH AND REMOVE THE BLACK AND POLISH IT UP BY HAND

YOU WILL FIND IT WILL COME UP LIKE NEW

BE CARE FULL WITH THE SPRING ENDS THEY TEND TO CATCH ON THE WHEEL MIND

AND REMOVE THE PISTON SEAL BEFORE YOU POLISH IT UP

FOR THE CHAMBER

FIND SOME THING THAT WILL FIT INSIDE THE CHAMBER

AND WRAP SOME THING AROUND IT (CLOTH) PUT SOME AUTO SOL ON THE CLOTH THEN FIT IT TO A DRILL AND SET IT AWAY INSIDE THE CHAMBER

ONLY DO THIS FOR A FEW MINS

LIGHTLY POLISH THE OUT SIDE OF THE CHAMBER TO AND APPLY A LITTLE LUBE TO THIS WHEN YOU PUT IT BACK TOGETHER

THEN REPEAT WITH A CLEAN CLOTH NO AUTO SOL

AS THIS WILL POLISH IT UP FOR YOU .

ONCE EVERY THING IS SORTED FIT YOUR KIT

PUT A LITTLE LUBE ON THE PISTON SEAL AND I MEAN A LITTLE

THEN PUT SOME ON THE PISTON ITS SELF AND REFIT INTO THE CHAMBER

GREASE THE SPRING NOT TO LITTLE BUT NOT TO MUCH

YOU MAY HAVE TO TAKE HER BACK APART AND ETHER REMOVE OR ADD GREASE

ETHER TO STOP TWANG OR IF TO MUCH TO STOP DIESELING

ONCE SHE IS SORTED AND BACK TOGETHER THE RESULT WILL AMAZE YOU

NEXT TO NO RECOIL

COCKING WILL BE SMOOTH WITH NO NOISE ONLY THE CLICK AS SHE LOCKS INTO PLACE

ACCURACY WILL IMPROVE NO END DUE TO LESS RECOIL

PELLET ON TOP OF PELLET AT 30,,,,40,,,50YRDS (IF YOU HAVE PUT ENOUGH PRACTICE IN LOL)

A HW 97 IS AN UNFORGIVING RIFLE

IF YOU DONT SHOW HER WHO IS THE BOSS SHE WILL BITE BACK

AND EVERY NOW AND AGAIN SHE WILL BITE BACK ANY WAY JUST TO LET YOU KNOW SHE IS THE REAL BOSS .

SOUNDS DAFT I KNOW BUT YOU WILL FIND OUT LOL

HOPE THIS HELPS

SORRY THE PICS DID NOT GO IN THE RIGHT ORDER

FROM LAST ONE UP TO GET IT RIGHT LOL

Jimmy is indeed a top man, always more than helpful and full of advice. The vortek kit for my 97kt will be in the post tomorrow. Can't wait!

Lewis, Jimmy gave me the advice to adjust my trigger pull weight, a quarter turn to the left at a time until it is nice and crisp - this has been a game changer for me and I'm finally realising the true potential of the rifle. Changed my groups at 30 yards from just under an inch to half an inch. Shot a string of 30 shots yesterday and all but a few fit under a 5p coin. Today the group was even more consistent.

If you look back over a few pages on the forums I've asked a few questions about my 97 and had lots of helpful responses.

All the best,

Guy
