Great Publicity For Ggfofi Mick The Miller Race

Recommended Posts

Further great publicity for the GGFI MASTER McGRATH and MICK THE MILLER CHALLENGES with a 2 page spread in this week's COUNTRYMAN'S WEEKLY and a full page in the DUNGARVAN POST.

This is not only good PR for the races and the Great Game Fairs of Ireland but great PR for countrysports and working dogs.

would you not invite them back to the nuthouse with yous.

I think the best way to promote my chosen sport is to keep myself to myself, and go about my sport without drawing unwanted attention to myself. Therefore you will never see me in any magazine, never

You lads should come to England and see how much support lurchers and terriers get at shows.....not a squint of what you guys get

MORE GREAT PUBLICITY for IRELAND'S TOP LURCHER RACES

Two Page feature in COUNTRYMAN'S WEEKLY on the GGFofI's MASTER MC GRATH & MICK THE MILLER Challenges

AND a fantastic DOUBLE PAGE article on MICK THE MILLER by Derek Fanning in IRELAND'S OWN magazine.

Derek is not only the ROI editor of our IRISH COUNTRYSPORTS & COUNTRY LIFE magazine but also the Deputy Editor of Co Offaly's main newspaper. He has been instrumental in the Great Game Fairs of Ireland developing the GGFofI Mick The Miller Challenge at the Birr Game Fair ( 26th August) as a tribute to a great Co Offaly sporting icon.

WE HAVE GENERATED POSITIVE PUBLICITY FOR COUNTRYSPORTS, WORKING DOGS and TWO GREAT IRISH SPORTING ICONS. IT REALLY IS A PITY THAT SKIPPING, A SAD TROLL, HAS ATTEMPTED TO DEMEAN WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO DO. HE SHOULD BE TREATED WITH THE CONTEMPT HE DESERVES.

IT IS EVEN SADDER THAT THIS SITE HAS CONTINUED TO ALLOW HIS DEFAMATORY RUBBISH TO BE PUBLISHED.

Allbert skip simply asked what way the dogs where bred,in what way is that demeaning to anyone? A simple question that you are as of yet to provide an answer to.

Whitebuck,

Look at the series of posts from Skipping - he has been trolling us for several months. I was not referring to his questions about the breeding of the dogs but his general trolling. We have been advised not to answer Skipping or engage with him in any way. We will not be answering ANY QUESTIONS from SKIPPING.

However since YOU have asked. The dogs in the B/W photographs are Master McGrath and Mick The Miller from original photographs and their breeding is a matter of record

The dogs in the publicity photographs, like the guy acting Lord Lurgan, were selected as being close in looks and size to the originals. 'Mick The Miller' was a full bred greyhound of the size and colour of the original dog. It was hard to find a dog to stand in for Master McGrath in terms of size and colour - so the dog selected as being the closest for both was a black/white lurcher.

I didnt ask,nor to be honest do i care. If as you say that your main aim is to promote irish fieldsports and working dogs in a more positive light, why dont you donate all profits made from the game fairs to charity? Answer me honestly if you wernt making money from it, would you still be so keen on promoting fieldsports in the same way? Somehow i dont think so, but if im wrong i apologise in advance.

I do not and never have made my livelihood from organising fairs. For many years I personally subsidised the fairs and like the rest of the team I don't run the fairs for a wage.

Although it is hard work and high risk all of our team only draw modest expenses for a huge commitment. All do it because they are countrysports enthusiasts and if effort versus return was calculated all do it for very much less than the minimum wage rate per hour!

What we have done over 39 years is put more money back into countrysports than any other organisation and/or individual in IRELAND. Virtually no club or organisation who has approached us for sponsorship has gone away empty handed . In addition the money and most of the prizes competed for at our events are sponsored by us with the organising club taking the entry fees - so of course this money also goes back into countrysports. We also host all of the countrysports organisations for free.

Have you any idea of the actual cost of running an event of the size of our shows - it takes a huge investment and good years have to pay for poor weather ones.

Can you advise us of any other organisation that has done as much for Irish countrysports and can I ask what you personally have done to promote countrysports and how much of your income do you donate to countrysports or other charities?

Always on the defensive trying to justify the fact that your doing it all for the good of countrysports? Is it yourself or others your trying to convince ? Cause no matter what bullshit you spout if it wasnt making you money there is no way in gods great earth you would still be doing it.

You have a very poor opinion of human nature - perhaps you judge others by your own standards.

Personally I do it because a lot of people and organisations depend on me to do it - the rest of the team probably do it for similar reasons.

When all the bills are paid , even in a good year, and the working capital taken out for the following year there is not a lot to split and in fact I would suspect you get more on the dole than any one of the team gets from the Game Fair- that's why we have always had other jobs!

And you haven't given me any examples of what positive PR that you have generated for countrysports. I have given you some examples of what we do!

Your a very easy man to wind up, usually always a sign of someone who knows the other person is right in what there saying but feels like they have to justify there own actions. We are all entitled to our opinions, i have mines on your game fairs, you can have yours.

The fame pales a bit after 39 years!

I am not defensive - if someone asks a question I think it courteous to give them an answer. I also will make it clear our team all work hard to promote countrysports as well as working to earn their livelihoods in other jobs as I also do.

You asked a question you have had your answer. Let me know when you do something positive to promote countrysports and I'll report on it in our magazine!

TALLY HO CHRISTMAS DOG SHOW AND RACEDAY SATURDAY 9th DECEMBER 23

At this time every year we all look forward to our Christmas Dog shows and this year was no different. Saturday morning the 9th December 23 had finally arrived and it was time to load up and head for Ballymena to the Tally Ho Christmas Dog Show and Race Day.
As we drove along the motorway, the winds and rain swept us along, and it became  evident  it was time to get the water proofs on. We were living in hope the rain and wind would subside as the day went on, but unfortunately this was not to happen.
But as the old saying goes the show must go on and that it did. In the face of adversity, howling winds and rain, show organiser Peter Morgan being the man he is and a credit to the Country Sports fraternity, battened up the hatches, hammered down the show rings, got the racing under way, and very soon the 2023 Tally Ho Christmas Dog Show had rolled on.
Tally Ho Working Dog Christmas show and Race day is widely acclaimed as being one of the top shows of the year, and again this year it certainly lived up to its name.  Although the weather was inclement and the worst I have seen in the 25 years I have been at dog shows up and down the country. But on the day, this show was not lacking in Christmas cheer.
Hunting men and women and their wee people left the field and their homes behind them to spend a day out at this great annual Christmas Sporting occasion.
This Christmas Dog Show is always a very welcome break from the busy schedules of Christmas shopping, but can also be a very sad and lonesome time, full of memories of yesteryear. This annual doggie day out lifts this mantle, brings cheer in abundance, and helps us to leave our cares behind if only for a day and that brings rewards in itself.
As usual Santa and his Elf stopped off at the Tally Ho Show to pay a visit on his way to the North Pole with lots of goodies for the children. This is always the highlight of the Christmas show. It was heart warming to hear the children singing Jingle Bells, and the happy smiles on those we faces.
Very soon it was Raffle time. The raffle always generates a lot of   excitement. Some great and valuable Christmas prizes, including a Turkey.
Time flies bye so quickly show time had arrived.

A big thank you to Matt Lee/Joanna Relf Lee /Matthew Lee for being so professional with the racing on the day. Your experience and input was invaluable, and of this the Tally Ho team are extremely grateful. Well done by all.
Finally, Finally, despite the bad weather, the craic and the banter around the rings was mighty and a brilliant atmosphere full of Christmas cheer.
None of this would have been possible without the main man at the helm, and brilliant organiser Peter Morgan and helpers Conor Creagh/another young man/ and Caitlin Hughes.
Peter put this show together all by himself and worked tirelessly and gave up his time to make this day so successful and enjoyable for everyone despite the bad weather.
Peter your show was a credit to you and you made everybody so welcome. As usual you have went over and above the call of duty with your Trophies, Rosettes and Prizes. I have heard nothing but praise of your show from everybody that came my way.
I am sure there were many sleepless nights, but again all credit goes to you Peter Morgan. Peter you carried on regardless like a true huntsman despite the terrible weather situation and carried out a very successful Dog Show and Race Day.
Stay safe Peter and may your giving hand never want. And TO all my Sporting friends, God Bless you all, and have a lovely Christmas with your families and I look forward to meeting up with you all again in 2024.
      Margaret Mc Stay
