I had a dog same way bred as this, was jeff Burrells steamer dog x merlin eve coursing bitch. Was very solidly built, very thick dense coat that would withstand any weather and one of the most keen dogs Iv owned. I would have another tomorrow if i knew it would throw like the last one.

There could be Norfolk blood in Barney but it would be a long way back..

'Barney' gets his rough jacket from his sire 'nipper'.

Who in turn got his rough jacket from his mother the 'seagull'

'SEAGULL'

Nippers sire 'Joe' was a broken coated dog

'JOE'

Nippers sire 'joe' was bred off 'merlin' x eves sister 'lilly'

Nippers dam 'seagull' was bred off 'fred' x 'eve'

'Eve' and 'lilly' were both bred off the pure saluki 'prince' x a lurcher bitch gypsy ('blue' x 'dawn')

who was mainly a mix of saluki grey beddy and collie.

Back to 'barney' his mother was 'kim' many think she was a pure saluki but this isn't true.

She was from a father x daughter mating sired by the pure saluki 'cruise of shildon'.

'Kim's' dam was also sired by 'cruise' x 'Trixy' a 3/4 collie greyhound.

So as said above if there was any Norfolk blood it would be well back in the breeding. I know there are some lines that do have a small dose of Norfolk blood but none of them are in 'Barney'.

I hope the above gives anyone interested a little incite into the origin of the wooly coat coursing dogs

Think the long/wooly coat is just the rough lurcher coat mixing with saluki coat, some salukis get more feathering/longer coats as they age

kc bitch as a youngster and in her dotage

Agree mate ? Don't really tend to see it in any other saluki x lines other than stuff bred down from Seagull though?

Snowey.. Nipper, sam... benji,Barney, Peggy, Ozzie, fettle etc all direct children or grandchildren to seagull
