Had some bad luck bred a litter out of our stuff and some had bad mouths i shouldve just put me black n tan dog over sommat but me trying to be clever bit me on the arse. Im after a good terrier puppy now if you hear of anything bigger and stronger the better.

People dismiss a bad mouth as being a fault as a thing coming from the show world not the working dog world. Understandable. A good terrier with a bad mouth will not be too hindered in his work because of it. 

But, how many have seen an undershot fox or badger? I mention badger from an historical point as it was relevant when the breed standards where written. The terrier must be as far as possible physically capable of meeting his opponent underground.

The only reason that it is fault is that terriers with bad mouths are more prone to losing teeth, or were when they worked in a different way that is allowed by law today. Having teeth being an important attribute of a working terrier.

No one intentionally breeds faults

some of the bed rock in terms of breeding the chocolate black dogs had an undershot jaw.

 

all of the borders I’ve seen that actually work ,

not pissing about with ferrets or ratting , working terriers 

had poor mouths but were dug to .

from a foxing point of view , the top pallet seems , in my view to be open to more punishment.

Course they do Sid but it’s a fault which won’t get better and only gets worse and why would you breed from a dog with a fault like that when there’s plenty around with a good scissor bite.

I reckon obviously weaker.

however a mate of mine … I won’t name him as he’s on here,

had a black dog.This dog was the best they had seen , and they did / do a hell of a lot of work.

he was very undershot.

he sired all puppies they bred regardless.

He was from AC kennels I believe .

the point being it’s the drive and working ability 

first ….. conformation second …. In my view anyway
