Unique Carved Lurcher Antler Opinel No 12

Recommended Posts

Nice knife. I`m always looking for a nice homemade folder but not with that blade.

I would take all the comments on the chin bud , they are meant in good faith, and I wouldn`t insult others with "can`t afford" comments cause plenty can.

You`ll find that if you make the knife that someone off here happens to be looking for you`ll get a sale.

Just ask Midnight. I have a number of those buggers.

Have to say though, a nice antler handle is the best thing you could do to an Opinel.

Ok guys so what is it worth? If anybody on else on here had made it and worked on it what would you charge for your time?

If anybody who makes one charges £10 per hour for their time, take into account of the cost of the blade and others expenses you would be lucky to break even.

Cracking job Gruff

Thank you deswal.

We charge out our craftsmen at work at £27 per hr + VAT= £32.40 we have 28 of them and none could put an Opinel blade in an antler let alone carve a running dog. As for time likely about 24hrs work so at a craftsman's rate 24 x 32.40 =£777.60

As for the opinels yes they are cheap and in my opinion the best value for money carbon steel knives out there. Don't know the carbon make up but they preform as well as any 01 tool steel blade i have seen. You would be pushed to buy a bit of tool steel to make a blank for the cost of a finished Opinel. That is exactly why i buy and cannabalise them. When i finish with the blades they are smooth and polished on the back, no new ground mass produce feel. The cutting edge is honed to razor sharp and can shave the hair off the back of your arm.

To anyone If it's not worth £295 to you then don't buy it. If you can't afford £295 then don't buy it.

In the words of Anthony Liccione “If talk is cheap, then being silent is expensive. And many people it seems, can't afford to buy into it.”

Griff

lovely looking knife that griff. i agree with you opinion on the opinel steel. ive got a berretta pen knife here with a skinning hook on it and i go for the opinel every time. £75 worth of berretta pen knife and i dont rate it.

I thought i read on the other thread that it was made for socks.

SINDASOX

Yes socks commissioned it. For his own reasons he has had to pull out of the deal. I have no issues with that. He did offer me £400 worth of new kit for it but i have most of it already so prefer the cash.

You hit the nail on the head Rake-aboot. Plenty can afford it so hence the price. Definitely no offense intended to those that cant.

Tell you what mate. you make a small stainless blade non locking folder with an interesting handle for £100 or so and I`ll buy the first one. No questions or haggles, I`ll take it just to get the ball rolling. Hows that for a deal ? you provide and I``ll pay.

You have the talent and I`ll have the cash.

Haven't been on here in a while and haven't been shooting in a while so I'm deciding so sell some gear and focus on other things.
Firstly is my BSA lightning tactical xl in .177 comes with hawke hd 3-9x40 scope, one piece mounts and a LED ray gl2 torch with flip up red filter and buffalo river case.
Only fault with the gun is the front sling swivel is missing.
I also have a mad dog growler jacket in APG size medium
A top gun skeet vest size medium
      British army Dpm smock medium-large
British army issue jungle boots size 11
Large jack pike shooting hold all
British army cam net unsure of size but large enough for a personal hide
I would like to see £130 for the rifle but I'm open to offers for everything together in a bundle
Collection only for the rifle but the other items I can post and take paypal payments
      I'm in Warminster Wiltshire
      Thanks
