Rio The Mink Hunting Brown Rats

Recommended Posts

I have a little mink named Rio who is an absolute coward. She is BY FAR the most timid mink I have ever hunted with, and so I can only use her on weak and easy prey like rabbits and brown rats. Even when we do hunt brown rats, she is more likely to flush the rats than actually kill them, unless the rat in question is young or small. So I basically use her for flushing rats to my lurcher, the way you would use a ferret. I also occasionally use her to hunt rabbits, as she isn't afraid to kill rabbits. Anyway, here's a video of me catching a rat that Rio flushed, and the dog missed.

I've tried pick My tats up by the tail but they always seem to swing up and I turn into a 20 year long old girl.

Good video, am I right in thinking your lurcher is a jagd/whippet?

Picking up 3 adult rats by the tail at one time, without getting bitten in the process, is my personal record.....

My lurcher is a 3/8 hot blood, 3/8 stag hound (long dogs line bred for many generations specifically for hunting coyotes), 1/8 English Pointer, and 1/8 saluki. This video describes why I chose a dog bred like this, and gives more details about her breeding...

great film. adult rats arent too bad as long as you are fast and decisive when you make your move and are not stupid enough to hold them too close to your body! the youngsters can climb back up their own tails though, they are much more flexible

I have only every tried it when a rat is sat out of reach of then dogs with just it's tail poking out.

It wasn-t you then. There was someone in here from America or Australia who had brought a jagd lurcher.
