Christmas Spirit

Recommended Posts

Maybe I've just forgotten, but i'm sure when I was a kid that the build up to Christmas wasn't done to death like it is now. Nowadays I think having it mentioned so much makes the actual day a huge anticlimax. Once lunch is over it's pretty much done. Now everywhere is open on Boxing Day and it's back to normal.

This year we're actually going to a party for a couple of hours on Xmas Eve, so it might feel more Xmassy than it has of late. Does everyone enjoy Xmas for Xmas sake or is it just for the kids?

I'm not sure if my lad even believes in Santa. I think some of the guys in the T.A or at work might have let on.

We never put a tree or decorations up until tonight, always have waited until this time to do it. The kids will get up in the morning and see the decorations and then it'll be the start of the Christmas countdown.

Why the 12th specifically mate?

Is it so you can eat 12 of the advent calendar chocolates?

someone asked me in November if I had my tree up yet, I said yes, up in the loft until Christmas, it's rediculous even the January sales start before Christmas

Can't get enough of it.. But I'm shite at buying presents and always leave it till last minute. But I love the time off with the family. Kids don't have a lot through the year but we splash out at xmas. Always go to the christingle in the village, my sons just put the fairy on top of the tree.. Can't wait bring it on.

When the kids were young Christmas started about a week before the 25th, the kids would start to get wound up and were always on the best behaviour. (Well sort of) Then once the last present was opened, that was it Christmas was over. You know, I really miss that, the build up and then their faces.

My tree goes up a week before and down a's soon as I had enough..

I'll watch Christmas films if there on and she will have the old Christmas songs on in the kitchen...

I like it for Christmas sake but I like it also because it's a week off work :)

I think it is tight on the kids in the homes that have the tree up early. 6 and 7 year old waiting on Santa to bring all the new toys but they still have 35 more sleeps lol. a week is a long time when your a child.

It's all about getting the family together for me, we all come from far and wide to spend the day at Ma's and it's the only time of year we all get together so that makes it a special day. Spoiling all the wee ones is always nice too.

Christmas films are on in the summer, school events every week from 1st dec, shops starting to sell Christmas stuff right after the kids go back after half term in oct and really can't get away from it in any town after Halloween, people start putting decorations up end of November and children get to sit on about 4 different Santa's knee it's just over done now, shops desperate to grab that last pound off you and people happy to struggle for the rest of the year paying it off.

We try to keep it simple and no one goes without. Our tree goes up Christmas eve morning then my youngest girl who's 9 and I spend the whole day together, she doesn't go with me shooting as she scared witless of dogs unlike the other two so just the two of us go as "our time " visit a couple of elderly neighbours, deliver a few cards, get a coffee somewhere then go buy Mrs a pressie and we return to find the tree decorated that to me if the best part of the whole Christmas and to be fair will be a bit upset when she has something better to do.
