full house and not atrap in sight all caught on running poles with snares very effective

For me, its all about learning, and thinking outside the box. It's about challenging your own abilities.   I'd rather spend a week with Woodga, or Glenn Waters, (who are passionate about what they

.. why carry a lot of traps about when a handful of snares will do the job just as well.

Nonsense. Traps are far superior to snares, you can set them in more situations and a damn sight easier.

You snared many then?

I would say from his response no? But I could be wrong would not be the first time. :D

Like these king

Yes mate i had a hazel stick in the ground as an anchor with a small nail through the top.a few twists in the snare to form a little loop just holding on the nail and they were set.great fun.its suprizing how much pressure you can load on the hazel whip.

Deadly snare.and great fun for the youngsters to set and catch with them.

Why traps are superior to snares:

1) Easy to set - no special skills

2) Versatile - can be put in small spaces or difficult to see areas so you don't need poles and wires sticking up everywhere

3) Discreet - traps can be hidden and obviously there are no dead bodies hanging on view for the antis to see

4) Humane - kills target outright rather than by slow strangulation

5) Quick - you can set in seconds with no fiddling around

6) Reusable - remove target and reset for the next one in seconds

7) Cage traps- you can release non targets unharmed

They are facts. Carry on. ?

I should just add that a few of you seem to be suggesting that I have said that snaring isn't effective. I didn't say that, I just said there are better tools available for rats and squirrels. And there are, and the reasons they are better are the reasons I gave above.

If you have lots of time to fanny around with snares then carry on camping, I do pest control for a living and don't have the time or the inclination to even attempt to snare a rat or a squirrel, I can just imagine a customers face seeing me whip out wire and poles :D .

And whether I have snared 5 or 50,000 rabbits is completely irrelevant, and frankly I don't have to prove myself to anyone! :boogy:

I think people take great satisfaction in using a simple piece of wire and catching an animal with it.

Instead of placing someone elses trap design to catch an animal.

Snares are designed to hold not strangle....snares are reusable....if you know how to set they can be set very quick..... the snares used today with breakaway, deer stops etc allow non target species to get out of snare....?

There's still a few people out there trapping and snaring I run a small line after Christmas the route is just where I walk my dogs of an evening I'm not much good with a wire myself but a few fenn traps and I'm away. One thing I have found though I don't think the fenn mk4 should be called a humane trap even with a perfect catch much rather use a a few wires for em if they go missing oh well it's a couple of pence lost.
