I got the malham for hiking, the leather is a bit too soft and has scuffed a lot on the toes, but the boots were comfy from the off and are one step up from my old brashers. I'd go altberg again no qu

Ya want prope leather the military type better imho try eBay n look for altberg defenders lot of lads sell em far cheaper than altberg   Only draw back I've found is they horrible too break in, but

Arn't these similar to lowa but cheaper. See these all the time on ebay. Extreme Cold Weather Booots http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ECW-EXTREME-COLD-WET-WEATHER-GORE-TEX-BOOTS-Size-14-Large-British-Army-N

I got Altbergs they keep my feet dry but they ain't the most comfortable tbh, the heels have no give in them.

I read something about them specialising in a foot type with a more narrow heal and wider front foot.
I know the defenders I've got come in different widths, the heels in mine are like plastic heels so have no give. They're great boots just ain't the best if stomping uphill a lot, im gonna try Lowa next.

I've not seen those, they might be good boots, but you can get new defenders for the same money.

Mate if you have a go outdoors near you just go in there, it's know good making your mind up before hand as they have some monster discounts on certain brands, I bought a pair of walking boots last year and they were £150 everywhere else, but 50 percent off in go outdoors so cost £75 never heard of the make before, but I have had them for a season and given them some terrible abuse they are still water proof and comfy and look like they will last at least one more year if not three or four they are made by scarpa, my last pair were north face and they were also half price, so just pop in and see what deals are on

scarpa make excellent boots it's what a lot of mountain walking and climbing folk where my mates got a pair of the mantra gtx and swears bye them

They are nice boots I bought them because I smashed my anckle quite badly, bones, ligaments and tendons, so I needed some good anckle support but also a bit of flex as my foot is quite a bit bigger than the other one even after nine months, so leather ones were a no go, plus at 50 percent off bargain

I love my altberg defenders. Comfiest boots I've had...99FD0C84-49CA-49AF-81A2-3A1A855F71DA_zps

if you spend a lot of time stood in streams , taking photos of your feet, I recon wellies would be more for you and cheaper

That's true but wellies just don't offer the same ankle support buddy ?

going to give these a try for my next pair http://www.altberg.co.uk/product/moorland-extreme-boot/

They look very nice! The leather grease advertised on the same page is similar to the stuff I use on my Lundhags...I can recommend them too, though mine are the one piece leather boot (was called the Scout but now the Forest) which doesn't have a waterproof liner and relies on the grease. I've also got a pair of Professionals but not worn those in anger yet as they're strictly for foul weather as they have a padded lining.
