Oak? That's a bit posh. Haha. I was gonna go collecting and making a few when I'm up and about but can't guarantee they will be oak. Lol.
i just happen to have a few oak boards lol the ones that warp or crack while drying will have a few off cuts? If you pay postage I'll send you some wood ;)

Well I've just finished my first net. Did a bit of messing about yesterday...       Then started this one today. Started at 7:30 and finished at 10:00. Not sure if that is good or bad for firs

Get your arse down here for a half day and you can have my kit and knowledge and a glass or two and a decent meal and the services of a lovely wifey nursery type person. You won't want to go back home

Plummer flushed the teddy to the net. Is that legal or not these days? ?

Have you tapered it? Or just a straight run through?

How many meshes wide, mesh board size etc and which video did you watch?

Sorry for all questions, would like to have a go myself.

Made some in the past, but always twist around themselves

Breeze I might have a bash at a long net but it won't be yet. Lol.

 

Chicken man - I watched 4 different videos and came up with my own method combining the different methods.

 

There is a very good video about 40 mins long by a Geordie bloke. I used his method of knot and I used an Irish guys method of tying the last ring on.

 

I'm using 2" mesh board.

 

I've settled on the following pattern...

 

8, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 17

 

17,17,16,15,14,13,12,11,10,9,8,8

 

That gives a 4' net.

See if you change the two middle 17's into 18's, it gives you a good wide net. I put a different colour twine on for the 17 18 18 17, so I know their mine. It doesn't take long to get into!

I got a tip from an old net maker to use your index finger to hold the knot on top of the board instead of your thumb to keep your knots from slipping down.

 

I dont know if that makes sense to anyone but me. Its hard to explain in writing
