pesky1972 5,623
Second bet on this week after picking the Derby winner earlier. Not a bad little scrap, and a whole lot closer than the bookies had it.

I thought that he didn’t look “out” at all but of a liberty but I like Fabios story so oh well. I don’t think he will make world champion though

I stand by my post. The fight was every bit of a circus as any crap Jake Paul puts on. In allowing this fight the British Boxing Board of control were deliberately dodging their responsibilities with regard to boxers' safety Eubank had to massively dehydrate so that he looked like an emaciated rescue dog, whilst Benn looks nothing like he used to. His new muscle bound physique is maybe the result of eating a lot of eggs. Or perhaps he's been eating a lot of wild boar sarnies. These excuses are accepted by the board of control as ' reasonable' explanations for failed drug tests. But a highly ' juiced' boxer can be a danger to himself and his opponent. But more importantly, we now know that making weight, (that is losing weight quickly) is a very dangerous practice which makes brain injuries more likely. The brain is more likely to be 'rocked' when a boxer is dehydrated. It has many other negative effects on the body especially kidney function. It takes days for the body to fully rehydrate. It cannot be done on a shorter timescale. The Benn camp insisted Eubank weigh 170 pounds or less on the morning of the fight. Eubank could not possibly fully rehydrate with such a tight schedule. It's not a coincidence that Eubank had to be hospitalised for two nights after the fight. He was totally and dangerously exhausted . As you say " this fight had disaster written all over it". The Benn team and Hearn would have been responsible if Eubank jnr had been badly injured. It was they who insisted on such a dramatic weight limit. We seem to forget the fates of Gerald Mc Clelland,Michael Watson and Nicky Blackwell too easily. All 3 were badly brain damaged by members of the Benn or Eubank families. The British Boxing Board of control are ignoring the lessons of the past. Their job is to protect boxers, not sanction this type of contest. Let's say Benn had beaten a drained and intentionally weakened Eubank. What would that have proved? That he had beaten a shadow of the full strength Eubank ? Big deal. If Benn is as good as some say he is, and not his dad's tribute act, why would he insist on fighting a weakened opponent? Genuine world class boxers like Sugar Ray Robinson or Roy Jones jnr have dominated at several weights without a punishing clause in their contracts demanding their opponent is not fully fit and strong. Maybe Usyk should demand Dubois lose 2 stone before fighting him? When Eubank jnr fought Nicky Blackwell, Eubank snr told Eubank jnr to stop targeting the head of Blackwell long before the fight was eventually stopped. I clearly remember you commenting on here that Blackwell should have been pulled out of the fight much, much earlier. Blackwell was taken to hospital with a bleed on the brain. Eubank could see that Blackwell was in a bad way and the fight should have been stopped . In fact he was banging on the canvas shouting at the ref to stop the fight. Eubank snr is not stupid. He was dead against the Conor Benn fight for safety reasons and I and many others agree with him 100%. Eubank jnr would be mad to agree to a rematch with the same weight targets. Risk is an enjoyable part of the game for all boxers. Every boxer knows that he could be seriously hurt in a fight. Its part of the buzz. But to fight in severely dehydrated shape is an unacceptable risk which can be avoided. No matter how many crazy millions of pounds are on offer. Making weight has directly led to deaths in other combat sports and its not a coincidence that brain bleeds are rare in heavyweight boxing where making weight is not such an issue. I see Eubank jnr's brother now wants to fight Benn's half brother. What next ? The wives having a scrap? Plus the family dogs? Who knows those contests may sell out as well. For me, the fight was a cynical farce and a shameful day for British boxing. What is the point of the Boxing board of control? They should have told Eddie Hearn and the Benn camp where to stick their weight limit. They are a disgrace. Edited June 24 by jukel123
