Blackbriar 8,569
Seems that we have dealt all the cards to the Turks, vis a viz our migrant dilemma.... We want the 'refugees' to stay in safe, established camps in Turkey. We want Turkey to stop turning a blind eye to smuggler's vessels heading to Europe, and take back passengers on intercepted vessels. We want Turkey to help us repatriate failed asylum seekers. Turkey says "This all costs money, you know !". So, we say " Here's 6 billion Euros to tide you over." "Oh" says Turkey....."And fast-track membership of the EU !"..... Now, many members were very opposed to this until recently - after all, Turkey has a poor record on democracy and human rights, but a very good record on Islamist insurgency. To be eligible for memberships, potential applicants must be moving forward in terms of freedom and democracy - Turkey is going the other way ! "But" number one, and its a big "but" - the seemingly endless flow of refugee/migrants can't be stemmed without Turkish co-operation......" But" number 2 - EU membership would open our doors to Turkey's 77 million citizens..... Looks like our great and hallowed leaders have painted us into a corner........ greenman33 37
The bloody Politico's get paid to be....................well..................politically savvy. It seems that the EU mob couldn't run a bath. Am I missing something here or am I just your average invisible voter that can be safely treated as a brainless tw*t?
