Starting Pups, A Retired Greyhound ,time

Been having a think lately about the past and dogs that should of made the grade and didnt and a few that shouldn't of made the grade and did.All that time getting young dogs 5 or 6 month old pups out into the field to see game and see a kill almost as if our lives depended on it,bringing home game and letting pups have a rag on it feeling disappointed if a pup showed no intrest lol.

A mate got a young greyhound bitch about 3 years old fit healthy well socialised but had been retired early for what reason we never found out this was a fair few years ago now we took it for a stroll early morning saw a small group of roe slipped her not expecting a lot but after a few turns along the sheep netting she pulled one just like that.A few days later went for a lamp slipped her doubled up on a fox she over took other dog and nailed the fox again just like that she took a lot more foxes in her career but as greyhounds do had to be layed up a lot through foot injury.

Another lurcher a dog this time rough coated saluki collie type took him ferreting lamping digging he had zero intrest wife wanted to keep him as a pet he had a super temperament so he was kept by her as a pet ,I lost a terrier was searching for it for a few days all the other dogs were having a few days rest so I took the failure with me while i resumed search for the terrier walked around a wood and there was the lurcher doing a little dance out in the field below him was the terrier in a old Victorian brick built drain that had been half filled in with land fill,the dog was 5 or 6 years old by then just out of interest took him for as lamp a few nights later just for a couple of hours and he put a good show in and caught a good dozen rabbits

Time and age is as funny thing and they cant be rushed .

Well said,a mate has had a few young dogs given to him over the years said not up to the job, but with time and patience they have become truly exceptional. I guess some mature quicker to life in the field than others.
