New "wanderer" Knives - W.i.p.

Recommended Posts

Hello,
I got back my hardened blades from 1.2442 tungsten tool steel, they're at about 61-62HRC :)

Yesterday I prepared the guards, one from german silver, the other one from brass

Blades wrapped in wet cloth to prevent excessive heat (anyway, solder melts at 230ºC and the anealing temp of the blades is at 230ºC, too).

Here freshly soldered

After the clean up of excessive solder, ready to shape the guard and fit the spacers

Once finished, the soldered joint will get polished

This bomb proof guard will stay in place, keeping humidity out of the handle for generations.

Regards

Nicolas

Hello,

as this is a non stainless carbon steel, it will stain in contact with acids, blood etc. Once you got patina on the blade, it will protect agains rust. So a forced patina (put the blade in hot acid) will protect the blade.

Rodrigo from 2Gknives, who maked my hardening, tested some blades from 1.2442 steel at 61HRC, they will break at about 40º-45º! Not bad for a steel that hard!

Nicolas

very nice nicholas i would like to see that bend to 45deg!.
