The greatest test for a lurcher has to be living with some of the folk on here. . . . .

I speak to lad from all over the country that hunt different things and one thing I noticed is most think their way of doing things in the only way and if your dog can't do that its shit! Me and mutts

I think using a lurcher thats not built or bred for certain quarry can be a test I.e a bull x on hares etc . Or seeing a skinny whippet cross putting their all into a fox. And it's always great

And it's always great to see an underdog do well when not expected.

But as bosun said horses for courses ,

Got to agree the hardest test for any dog is being out there grafting.... Plenty of dogs will put up a good show once a week but work them hard several days/nights a week and that's when you see what your feeding....

Best test for a lurcher..

Well, no good saying a fallow buck to someone with a 19" whippet cross, nor a January hare on the fenns for the 'squarer type' bull cross... horses for courses here...!

Just simply getting it out and behind gear imo.

Because whatever your lurcher type, or whatever the chosen quarry, each and every time out is a dogs best test... ;)

Agreed with above ....imo it's down to the man behind the slip in how he works his dog ....putting the quarry with a definite advantage also lets you know what kind of tyke you have .

Depends on Lurcher type, a whippet taking down a big red stag would be a fair test, a bull hound 1st cross trying to out smart a rabbit would be another big test, Ffs, what's all the testing about, deer dogs should take deer, rabbit dogs rabbits and so on, there are dogs bred/designed for chosen quarry and said dog should be able to perform and work accordingly, get the dog you need for the job and the only test is for you to put work in front of it.

Wirhout distracting from the subject and though i agree with most of your post Mary, i've seen and owned some first cross bull bloods that were mustard on rabbits. Hares i'd say are a different thing but not bunnies. ;)

yes and you will clearly so I stated your favour quarry to hunt and what's a test for your dog and I have to agree what's been said but why bother with the negative comments, I'm asking what different people are into!
