Phil Lloyd 10,739
Its like the merle collies they say you shouldnt put 2 together,i have one of them at home and see a few hancocks dogs done that way to nothing wrong with them. Obviously,..only a fool tells another hunting man, what he should, or should not do...so I won't... But,...(in my opinion)...it is not advisable to make a habit of breeding two Merles together... mad4it 695
you can breed albino to albino, as you have allready been told sliver to sliver could be a bit risky there nothing wrong with albino to albino litters Quote Link to post
The one 8,577
It maybe just me but I don't reckon most albinos are pure unless you personally have kept the line going for twenty years or so how you going to know albinos can crop up in a poley to ,poley mating . The thing with breeding feck ups is if it works it's called line breeding and if it don't it's called in breeding Quote Link to post
krawnden 1,036
It maybe just me but I don't reckon most albinos are pure unless you personally have kept the line going for twenty years or so how you going to know albinos can crop up in a poley to ,poley mating . The thing with breeding feck ups is if it works it's called line breeding and if it don't it's called in breeding If you cross a 'pure' poley with an albino, every kit in the litter will be poley coloured but will carry the albino gene. Albinism is recessive, that's why none of the kits will be albinos. If you then cross one of those kits to another poley bred the same way, each parent carries one poley gene and one albino gene. There are 4 possible gene combinations for the resultant kits - # poley/poley (poley coloured) # poley/albino (poley coloured) # albino/poley (poley coloured) # albino/albino (albino) Because albinism is recessive it only occurs when both colour genes are albino. So if you cross albino to albino you can only ever get albino kits - neither parent carries the gene for any other colour. Quote Link to post
