Sell it and buy a proper lurcher ......

Good luck with the whippet mate. My 1st dog was a whippet got me into hunting this site nearly putt me off with all the posturing but the whippet kept me hunting and it didn't take me long to see that

I'd say 'don't listen to 99.9 % of the 'experts' on here and just enjoy your pup for what it is

If ya already got your whippet then dont worry yourself with lurchers, you need to put all your effort into that pup, no matter where it comes from. Do that and you'll do alright with it. ;)

Never worked a pure bred whippet myself but on here there are plenty that have or do now. Take your time, work through the forum and read from lads that really 'walk the walk' with whippets and do some serious work with them. By doing that, folk will get a feel for you and answers get ever better.

Give the pup a chance to learn the very basic rules. Get him out and about amongst stock. Sheep most important. On lead 1st. Remember that sheep have a death wish so the difference between ok and bomb proof will take time. Then show him rabbits. He will then catch the rabbits.

Good luck with the whippet mate. My 1st dog was a whippet got me into hunting this site nearly putt me off with all the posturing but the whippet kept me hunting and it didn't take me long to see that this site was worth its weight in gold for experienced information. Stuff like yapping crunching shivering because of the cold being wimpy. These are thing you will hear alot and that is because they are a possibility but not a certainty. Yapping comes from fustration so don't push too early on chasing rabbits take your time. Mine started crunching only after one incident when my cousins staff grabbed a rabbit he'd caught and after that he was a bugger for it. Shivering happens they're small with short hair but he also shivered every time he saw a cat he just worked him self up. The wimpy thing I think comes from pet whippets there are plenty round my way like that and they never get let off the lead they panicked every time my dogs ran up to them. Wimpy is not how I'd have described my lad. High pray drive and sneaky maybe but not wimpy. Get your whippet out in the day get his recall sorted his fitness and let him learn how to run fast on different terrains and you won't go far wrong. Good luck with the pup. You won't be disappointed. ATB SL
