Id get a pup and have nights out with mates and there dogs or use nets

Iv been tempted twice and tried it, once I took a mates young lurcher dog that hadn't seen nowt but had all hard work done, I couldn't gel with dog and placed it in a pet home. Other time I got a mates whippet bitch for a while as he had a lot on and couldn't see to her properly, so I lamped her for a while but she went back to him as I couldn't gel with her either. So now I'd wait it out

Thats fair enough you've been there and learned a lesson and it ain't a route you would go down again.thats fair enough.

But to an inexperienced new to the dog game lad.it could be a great thing buying a ready made dog.

Nothing wrong with selling a good dog in my eyes...if say a man has a cracking dog and put 2years of his time and money into it and circumstances changed by should somone come along and get that dog for nixies??? Good dog well trained nothing wrong with £600 and that's a bargain too say a man who doesn't know much about running dogs and wants learn fast hand over the cash no hassle..get straight out the dog would probably teach that man a lot, the price is nothing a lab with the same amount of training would cost a lot more....if u ever put proper time into training an animal and you didn't have a friend u could pass it on too,if You had too!!!!then selling it is the second best way to ensure it will be looked after If somone pays that kind of£££££for a dog , if its free or cheap easy come easy go too most people....just my opinion

I didn't say it guaranteed they would be looked after but unfortunately we live in a society where money is king....I said its second best chance u got of it being looked after if you can't pass it on too a friend!!!!

Lads breed pups raise pups and bring on pups but some times things go wrong if I needed a dog while pup was maturing or an older dog was recovering from injury etc I would by a dog in and £600 pound is nothing imo for the luxury of being out in the field watching dog work,better that than pissing it up the wall.

Paying for dog don't guarantee it will be looked after, pounds are full of pedigree mutts that somebody once paid for. Why do folk feel the need to be re imbursed, for a dog they no longer want or are able to keep. That's the problem most see them as commoditys ffs. if I had my way all pups from workers would be gifted, but all folk unable to keep or want it anymore should have to cull it , or at very least pay to get it culled and made to watch. I bet the dog game would sharp lose most the idiots in it

If someone really cares for the dog an say there partner had been diagnosed terminally Ill and had to give up the dog.then they should be made to watch the dog getting culled.ffs total nonsense

Or they could keep dog as a pet, my ole granny and lots other keep dogs despite being poorly. A dog is a commitment and one taken too lightly by too many

Buying in a dog will always have its place and rightly so. I've bought grown dogs on in the past and they have worked out well for me but they aint the same as sommat i've reared and they almost all have left my hands a better animal BUT as well placed givaways. I've often looked back and wished i was in the market for one of my old dogs...

 

No if's but's or maybe's but the rise of the Saluki and the coursing boom pushed Lurcher prices ever skyward. Suddenly in the late 80's, people could get their hands on dogs that could kill the then almost mythical 3/3. Surplus pups from capable dogs were going for hundreds of pounds and mostly from those who both had a pocket full of surplus cash and would later use it to wager on their new specialist desert dog!

Ok, there were one or two others that charged a premium, Minshaw sold one or two for big money (then) and Hancock has never been cheap but it was always expected from a commercial breeder and with his book writing partner on promotion, his prices were never really in question.

The ad's changed too. The abreviation HJCKK and others, were once all you needed to know but when the 3/3 and the like came in it read like you couldn't miss and they became a 'must have'.

 

I'll never agree that hundreds of pounds should be paid out for a working lurcher.

Some of the best dogs have come out of rock bottom prices and the effort of the buyer.

To me the most interesting part of CMW or EDRD is the classifieds and then i'm always lookin for bargin basement. Same to with your Preloved and PFH, i always bang the filters on and look for stuff under £100, it's there that the most interesting lurchers lay, it's there that the fun and challenge of a lurcher really is and it's there where the most satisfaction can be gained.

 

I firmly believe that Lurchers are a working mans dog and the type of hunting i do is also born of the working man. And this working man could never justify, to himself and for his family, paying hundreds of pounds for any dog and if i'm honest it ain't there to spend anyway!

my bull X bitch iv got now I had her as a adult didn't pay a lot for her and had year and years of fun and success I seen her work a lot before I had her and our bond is very very strong but she will would for anyone really !

My blue bitch had her since 8 weeks we have a very good bond the dog won't work for anyone else not even my uncle who she sees every day ! No amount of money would get these dogs from me simple !

I don't own and hunt dogs to make money I do it because I love it ! Being honest if I didn't hunt by feck i would have a lot more money and a nicer car !
