Greman Pointer X Greyhound

Recommended Posts

Ive been without a lurcher for a bit now Roybo. If I still had him, Id be tempted... but with hindsight, I could find a better dog... he had a thin coat, and greyhound feet, and I know I need great feet on my dogs thesedays. Seen a really good dog was coursing blood with bull in him.... or I could wait and put her to a staghound on the other side of the pond.

I agree accip, more versatile than the english, and like you also said, robust in physique and nature.

what about some thing like dai bull deerhound over your bitch..Good feet good coat good bit of size and speed

A few pic's of my gwp x saluki bull grey he has a great nose and the most biddable lurcher i have ever owned, not a flying machine but he suits me for the type of hunting i do.   A.T.B. Co

As an all round dog, I doubt an English pointer would be half the dog a decent gwp is........people are using gwp's because they can be an awesome hunting dog with a tough, robust nature & physiqu

Im toying with the idea of putting something fast/big/hard etc on my gwp, the bitch has made the grade on quarry from birds, to hares, good hunt, point and retrieve, stalking and bloodtrailing, foxin

i speak to the people in Ireland who bred the 1st X litter. you would struggle to pair a better dam and sire, both working and well tested over number of seasons. the greyhound bitch was coursing bred that went on to work in the field and the GWP was top notch example of the breed. i was sorely tempted.

do u no if there's any still looking for home think one would be ideal for Sunday morning doing cover with the gun club

Roybo, I had to put him down, he saw 8 seasons though, cant complain...he is missed around here, was never a dull moment with that dog around. By feck could he hunt.

Navek, Id have work for a dog of that breeding, but not many other folk would, (might be wrong)? Im leaning towards a faster type, the pups wont be greased lightning but Id like to catch the odd critter on the lamp too, as well as daytime on the hill.

I'll keep you posted

What about the Romeo coursing dog that was up for stud in here recently? He had a good looking coat.

The man seemed to have problems homing them which I thought was a bit sad. The GWP is one of the least spoiled of gundog breeds, being mostly kept and bred for work.

If it was the litter that was advertised in here about a year ago, it was a GWP x grey dog over a track bitch which was retired through injury. The breeders had the bitch only a few weeks before covering her.

I called them and said 'Hi I'm calling about the litter of pups.' Her response 'oh yes, which ones?' They had 4 litters on the ground at the time. That was enough info for me...

the one i was thinking of the greyhound bitch had qualified for Clonmel, after her coursing days she had been worked on fox in Ireland.

Don't know about that one. They sound handy animals though. I'd love a GWP lurcher at some point...
