I thought I'd start this off to give us somewhere to put the world to rights and have a little moan about what or who has pi##ed you off.

I went to pick one of my sons up earlier from rugby training and while driving through a local village a van had stopped facing me on my side of the road while he popped into the chippie and left his headlights on full which really gets my back up.

I was blinded like a rabbit in the lamp but as I got closer I could make out it was a police van.

Analysis: In June 2003 I consulted Dr. Frank E. Vandiver, professor of history at Texas A&M University and author of Black Jack: The Life and Times of John J. Pershing, and asked if there's any truth to the above. He replied via email that in his opinion the story is apocryphal.

"I never found any indication that it was true in extensive research on his Moro experiences," Vandiver wrote. "This kind of thing would have run completely against his character."

On the one hand we have an urban legend with no source that does the rounds every few years on FB etc and on the other we have a professor of history that wrote a book about the man saying it never happened. I wonder which is the more believable source
