glass22 0 Posted November 27, 2015 Report Share Posted November 27, 2015 Hi, My girlfriend lost her dog in countryside a few days back and I wondered if anyone on here had any ideas for tracking it down or finding it out in open countryside, even advice on where to look for it hiding etc? are thermal cameras worth getting for this? Call the local councils to let the dog warden know, call any local kennels that take in strays and call the local vets. Inform the police and if you have any local railway, call network rail. Adds in local papers may be useful and facebook helps many people find their dogs really quickly. What breed is her dog? Call the microchip company to double check that the microchip has been registered, occasionally a chip isn't registered and no owner details are logged against the chip number, which could mean that her dog is picked up, scanned but the council or vet will not be able to find out any owner details and the dog is then kept as a stray for 7 days and then rehomed. Also, get your girlfriend to go to the place were the dog went missing and tell her to keep on shouting her dogs name, if her dog is still in the area her dog will be much more likely to respond to its owners voice than a strangers, depending on how shy/timid/extrovert the dog is. BlackStreak 498 Posted December 2, 2015 Report Share Posted December 2, 2015 When we loose hunting dogs in the US when out hunting, we will often leave our jacket or something with our scent on it where we turned the dog out / parked. Come back and check it couple times a day or next morning. Usually the dog will be waiting somewhere close by and will come when called. Not very likely to recover a dog this way after its been missing a couple days though. Jacket needs to be left upon giving up and leaving, not a day or two later though.
