Durham John 693
Mac Do you remember saying you chose a bland stock when you first got it cos you knew it was going black. Well I think the grain run is going to look stunning mate it flows right through the stock not just front or butt. Few coats of oil and it will be top notch. 1 Quote Link to post

As i was told by my mate and he is a joiner that pays attention to his wood and the way it looks he has not sent me in the wrong direction yet bud and iv done a few stocks with his advice and some really nice ones to but each to there own lee it works for me so im happy and the stock is looking good DJ the grain has just started to pop mate your right mind it did not look that good when i got her David if you use a lighter oil it will more or less stay the same mate It may change color slightly mind but not dark atvbmac  Quote Link to post

vizlauk 1,568
The end result will tell its own tail ! The stock will darken down on each coat of oil, I think it may take 3 to 4 coats to get the result Mac is looking for , after each coat has been left to soak in for an hour the excess will be rubbed of with a lint free cloth, then left to go off for 24hrs, then a light rub down with 0000 wire wool, then a wipe with a damp cloth before the next coat of oil ! That's from his joiner mate who mustn't know nowt about hardwoods or finishes ! Quote Link to post
