Help With Zeroing Problem

Recommended Posts

A cheap and cheerful solution could be to place a thin "shim" under the rear scope mount to raise it a little. More complicated solutions include moving the scope mounts around, swap front to back or try different mounts.

By "under the mount" I mean under the scope where it sits in the mount.

Bet the scope mount is too high, if you've run out of adjustment.

You should run the turrets fully one way then back, and count the turns, then set the adjustment at mid

point, then start from there. Also as a general point the object bell (large end) of the scope should be as near the barrel as possible

and I mean 'near' 1mm is plenty.

Long range specialists use MOA slanted rails to mount the scope 'uphill' so as to enable the elevation to max out

at ridiculous hold overs, but that's not you.

Fit low mounts, or get a new scope.

It's a decent scope and shims should sort the height out, but no more left adjustment?

If it was me I'd try it with a different set of mounts as my first step then take it from there.

Unless I have misunderstood it, I get the impression he has run out of height adjustment, not Left.

...and maybe worth a try reversing the mounts he has.

We still appear to be waiting for him to advise the distance he is zeroing, etc.

Seems strange ...but I had a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x50 a while back, the best elevation I could get was 3 feet LOW at 600 yards with my .243, it was returned as not fit for purpose!

Nip down the gunsmiths and get a set of higher rings. That 8x56 Docter is a scope worth keeping.

 How much higher would you suggest?

...and what if he wanted to push the zero out a bit further?

Yep. My bad. I thought it read no more left click. :icon_redface: That'll teach me not to speed read.

The first thing I would do is wind all the way until it stops and then count every click back the other way then half that number and click back so you then know where you are and that is exactly half way through the adjustment, then bore scope it and start again with the adjustments.
