ive a wee yorkie bitch 6inches high barks the boards down anybody about lol.easy fed to lol.

Same here, she starts the German Shepherd off so nobody's coming over our fence. The ridgeback sneaky fooker doesn't make a sound or a move till the perp is in range. Oddly enough only one person has rightfully said he's the one to watch.

My old bullmastiff x pit was like that, don't think he wanted to scare off his new toys before he got a chance to play with them  best dog I ever owned.

A quiet dog is a dog that's confident in their ability to handle the situation, barking is just calling the rest of the pack to help them.

Brilliant  those farm collies can be some of the nastiest dogs going but they like to wait till your backs turned the sneaky feckers

I knew a fella over in Oz who assured me he had the baddest pit bull guard ....bear in mind he had 40-60 on chains and in kennels at any given time and this dogs job was to not only protect. The house but puppy pens also, was wiling to bet $5000 way back in 1989 that nobody could get past it.... One of the other pits got off its chain and killed it ....it could,nt look after itself never mind the yard lol.

I don't doubt that some pits are good guards but I don't think its in there nature...mali's etc are different it's bred into them is,nt it.

id either get a yappy terrier or go the whole way and get a dog bred and trained for the job.

imagine some powerful, nasty, uncontrollable beast getting loose in a public place, just a time bomb waiting to go off.

you could be 10 foot away, but without control over the dog thats enough for an 'accident' to happen.

Sticking a Mali in a yard or on a chain all day be a terrible idea.

They're go go go all the time n be no good sat about. other breeds about who will be happy to chill all day n switch it on if need be. I have heard about them not being able to switch it off.

Also when in go mode heard of them being so into it the owner gets a nip when pulling them off. Deffo not the dog for a casual owner to leave around.

Gsd or Alsatian..not masive not stupid natural gauging instinct noes when to bite and not too.....no point in re inventing the wheel when it's already been done. A well bred Gsd or Alsatian would be my first choice .

Ps what ever you do tell your mate not to put a sight up saying beware of the dog...if he's from the uk

Like i've said before, i really dont understand why anyone would want a dog to guard other dogs... The whole cost, time and effort is staggering to guard a few working dogs in your yard.

Unless the guard dogs wellfare is way down on your priority stakes, just leave it in or worse on a chain an the poor bugger lives an altogether miserable life. No, you take old Rover out, excercise him daily, train him well, socialise him at every given opportunity for the next ten plus years... Is this your dog? Well then why dont you simply buy an alarm and dedicate all that time to the working dogs that your time consuming guard takes up...?

Or, maybe get what i got, two working lurchers that could and would do anything your big double 'ard barking bugger can do. See to me, that should come as standard, the most versitile dog adding another string to its bow and being a good guard as well as a hunting companion!

I'd guarantee my two are just as good as ANY of the afore mentioned breeds and the best bit is they catch gear too. One of em is a 26" line bred half cross with a head like a bucket, a bite like an alligator, has killed just about all this country has to offer and fears neither man nor beast, why the feck would i need a sheepdog (GSD) to guard that!!! Lol ;)
