Came home after work on Wednesday and my boy had dismantled an old microwave, pulled the transformer out and made an electromagnet. Basically Welded the steel layered core up the corners ant cut out the coil with the fine winding leaving the coil with the heavy winding, attach to a battery and you have a powerful electromagnet. This one lifts a 14lb fencing mal effortlessly with an 18v drill battery. Not sure what use it is but a bit of fun all the same!
