I no longer post to this site, however I watch. I saw Smithy several times at work, he was a  very big lump of a dog. Not kept at a sporting weight as he was always kennelled,  tall as yr knees. I saw

Its the fact that the dog passed around that gets me. Ive got dogs that by the sound of it arent a patch on smithy. Yet i wouldnt let them go anywhere for all the tea in china.

it may not have suited some people and the ones he bred on were

some huntsmen, South England This old boy said, he'd know the names. Might of been another to phelan,. He always said that, and gouldy denies where the came from, hard to knowtthe truthbut it looks more likely

me also intrested pablo but only in the truth .. i dont for one miniute belive he killed evry badger he was dug to.. and i dont see why anyone whuld be digging a dog as big as that regular to fox pre ban... then thers the holding back of his breeding by mr gould witch was said to be a cleaver marketing trick by his best mate stig.... sounds like ther was a load of old bollox surrounding the dog to be honest ... how big was he 17" a dog what learns to kil a fox early can do it reguarly with no stick regardless of size its a nack what can be learned..... am sorry but the legend smiffy dont suck me in dont care how he was bread and dont care for the glory storys surrounding him my opinion is he was only a dog a big hard dog who was marketed a good way by a dog dealer and bread to that many bitches he produced some decent dogs who got in the hands of good lads that made the most of them

Don't think Stig ever said that, certainly not on here, explain yourself please?

Cheers, D.

DY i have been talking with stig and he told me that he never mentioned ---clever marketing or holding stuff back.. for the record smithy would kill to ground --- gouldy went to buy a bitch from some lads kent way smithy was there and offered for sale gouldy took a chance on him --- once the dog had started to make a name for himself other people clamed to have bred the dog ----- gouldys always said his breeding is unknown ... progeny from the dog grafted ..
