Got one and it works, as has been stated slow and steady is the key, only problem is if the terriers having a bit of a hard time and theirs a bit of to and fro'ing the box can go a bit mad but it settles, I have used the more expensive boxes and the price difference shows in the speed it takes to locate, but as I've stated on this forum before to many people are in a rush to get down to the dog, maybe they should have one of these boxes and they might realise their dogs aren't as good as they think they are.

agree to a certain point, although I dug to my dog yesterday in an earth that held cold water and i think if I would've got down 5 or 10 mins later it could've of been a real bad day . if a dog is gonna spew it's gonna sooner or later not all digs take the same amount of time regardless of wether I get down to them in 5 minutes quicker today, tomorrow he could be down a lot longer until the jobs done . For me I'd rather give that bit extra for piece of mind . Edited by marshman

I'm glad your dogs alright marshman but a big annoyance of mine is people starting to locate the dog before it's had time to settle, these boxes make that process quicker and before you know it they've got the spade out. One of the best parts of a dig to me is letting the dog go, crack open the flask, sarnies out, realise I'm the only one who's brought sarnies so shared round, and then a few laughs and tales of previous digs and experiences then when the fat b*****ds have ate all my lunch box we locate the dog. HAPPY DAYS!

so how long would it take to locate the terrier if the terrier is steady enough?

Your not taking hours here, say for instance I have the cheap box and mate has the expensive one, we put the dog to ground and have a race to see we're the dog is and depth, he'll know probably 30 seconds before is know on a small to medium earth on a large sprawling earth add a minute or two there's not a lot in it as far as terrier works concerned, but if I were in an avalance I know which I'd prefer!!
