The Charity Fishing Competition Sunday 16Th August 2015

Recommended Posts

Ok folks.

The venue is booked. We are going here. http://www.hollyfarmfishery.com/

The date is set. Sunday 16th August. Same weekend as last year.

And I’d like the Charity to be Alzheimer's if that is ok with everyone ?? We had a scare last year when my wife was diagnosed with the condition. She’s only 45. We asked for a second opinion and saw a different specialist at another Hospital. After different and better tests, she got the all clear. But the eight weeks in between were some of the worst of our lives.

The site has camping, and I’d like those who are camping to book in themselves please. When you do book in, mention you’re here for the Charity match on the 16th August and they will know to book you in for that. We can camp around the lake we are fishing for the match and they are ok with us having a BBQ at the lake side. Or, we can use the clubhouse if the weather is poor, as long as it isn’t being used by someone else and we clear up after our selves . They also do Breakfasts, but we will need to let them know how many are required.

We will be fishing Gills Lake. It’s at the bottom of the site and farthest away from the entrance. It’s what is known as a “Snake” lake. Basically, it’s like a canal. I’ve never fished here so can’t tell you what it’s like. When the site first opened, it got lots of good reviews, it then fell off the radar a little bit. It now looks like its being run better and maybe it will get back to its best. Lets hope so.

Usual rules.

Barbless hooks only. Pellets and Groundbait to be bought from the site. Dogs allowed, but must be on lead and cleared up after.

One thing I will say though, I have every sympathy with John when he organised last years Competition. With the amount of Commercial fisheries near me, I thought getting one of them to let us use their facilities would be easy. Not a chance. “We are a Caravan site, we don’t allow Tents” “We don’t hold matches in the summer” No camping, Too many rules. No Dogs. That sort of thing.

I know this won’t please everyone, but it’s the best I can do and hope it’s ok for the majority.

Arch.

Arch looking at that web site wouldn't trotters lake be better to fish for a competition .......

It would. But the owner would rather we camp next to Gills, thus having the far end of the site to ourselves. Other than that, we camp in between the Caravans, but we would have to be quiet.

Sorry Ken. That reply sounded a little terse. I didn't have much time to write a proper reply. But here goes.

When I initially went to see Rita the lady who runs Holly fm and told her what we wanted. She was fine about us fishing Trotters and camping in between the Caravans. When I told her there could be some noise when we have the BBQ, I asked if it would it be ok for us to camp around the lakes instead. She was ok about that. What she did say was that if we fished Gills, we could camp around that lake and we would all in one place, out of the way, and not disturbing anyone, or others disturbing us.

I agree, Trotters would suit us better. It's a pity the 2 lakes aren't the other way around. But when Holly fm was the last but one place on my list and the next place on the list had questionable fishing, I said yes, thank you Rita and booked it. It's been alot more difficult sorting the competition out than I thought it would be. There are some top class commercials around here. But most of them have far too many rules for what we need. 2 keepnets each being one, and no Dogs the other. I'll go and see her again and have a word.

Makes sense to be down the end and camp round the lake we're fishing on. I like the look of the snake. Might need to start brushing up on tactics. ;)

Might need to start practising your landing net technique........

Looks just the job arch.

Not terse at all mate and makes perfect sense as far as the camping goes ... I only mentioned the other lake as there is bigger fish with more of a variety ... I am happy wherever we fish it's all for the craic and raising money at the end of the day ... Fair play for sorting it out so quickly arch ........
