walshie 2,804
How big a plot of land approx would you need to grow your own veg - enough for a family and maybe the odd guest or two? And how many hens would you need to keep to keep the same amount of people in eggs? Cheers.

neil cooney 10,415
Believe it or not but nearly every cottage in Ireland sits on 1 acre of land. The reason being that Eire's first president Eamonn DeValera (or Dev to his buddies) demanded this saying that 1 acre was enough to keep the average family in spuds and rear a cow every year. And in those days the average Catholic family was over 50 children, LOL.
