The various pastoral breeds, still used for working and herding tasks,..usually offer something worthwhile to justify their inclusion within most types of hunting dog...

She looks like a lovely little thing reddog.   It's funny how often, when you ask people about their best dogs or the ones they have the fondest memories of, they're often, "Oh it had a bit of this

I guess it comes down to giving the dog the time to learn and it is likely pastoral dogs learn the game well.

Are there any German shepherds still used for herding?

Alsations only very few, some so called Old German Shepherds are and the German Hütehund is used a lot actually. Tough sheep working dogs those GH.

BTW continental shepherds work cattle in a completely different way, not like a border collie at all. They are used as a mobile fence, not to drive sheep from one paddock/pasture to another. They are able of doing it but not like a BC.

Bred him myself and both parents are the same.

Not really mate, just introduced them to it.

These dogs are very versatile and are a very willing animal.

Well I am thinking about getting a blue healer for working the trap line and I was wondering if anyone knows about them how they do as a tracker

I think Phill Lloyd may be able to comment on the heeler.

If memory serves me right, he may have experience with them, or I could be completely wrong.

I've got one mate but for cattle work. My advice would be unless you have got a job for one all day every day then dont get one.they're full on, no "off switch". Need a hell of a lot of stimulation and exercise. Good luck but i would pick something more suitable
