Another problem !!!

Just set up my reloading rig and was de-priming some cases (.22 Hornet, once fired Hornady cases). After about a dozen cases the pin of the de-primer jammed in the case and became detached from the die, leaving it (the pin) stuck in the flash hole in the case and protruding through it so the case will not come out of the shell holder.

I know tomorrow I can get it out at work but will it fit back into the die ? (Lee die).On close inspection of the cases I saw that some of the flash holes were not central in the primer pocket, presumably this is what caused the jam.

Anyone had this with Hornady cases before ?

Hi hornaday brass has a tight flash hole & will require remed out. I have a k&m flash hole tool i have both sizes of reamer but use smaller one on the hornet brass. Once done it don't need doing again

Thanks, I've seen those reamers on the net. Do they only debur the inside of the hole or can they slightly enlarge it?

 

I've noticed with Remington and PPU brass the hole is considerably larger and my de-capping die worls fine. I have to de-cap the Hornady with a pin punch - very tedious!

 

I was considering drilling the holes out to 2mm.

Drill the flash hole to match a larger case hole, & chamfer ..

Yep, I've done that Drilled them all out at 2mm and chamfered the insides, worked fine.

 

I made up a little tool to hold the cases without deforming them as I drilled.
