woodland 6
Has anyone ever used a lurcher to hunt waterfowl? In general for working in water? Quote Link to post
forest of dean redneck 11,183
I've heard of people ,throwing bread into duck pond then letting a beddy lurcher go, I should think a pointer or retriever blooded lurcher be ideal for working fur n feather. Quote Link to post

Dewclaw69 484
i had a bed x whippet that i used to take out regularly with the gun. no matter how much i tried he showed no interest in ducks. that was until he escaped from his run one day and killed all mine. Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,023
My we bitche (beddy whippet) sire was used to retreive shot duck from water was right soft mouthed Edited August 29, 2014 by nothernlite Quote Link to post
paulus 26
my old dog has retrieved shot duck from water many times, no reason any lurcher should not be capable of doing it but if wild-fowling is your thing then there are other dogs generally more suited to the job, Quote Link to post

mackay 3,044
All my dogs have hunted feather as readily as fur and all have retieved off water. Some of my most enjoyable days years ago were moorhen hunting, I had permission on a large area of low ground with lots of smallish and several large ponds on it, you could push them from pond to pond all day till you either caught them or they headed to the nearby river. Crafty wee buggers, I've had them hiding up trees, down holes and all sorts. Quote Link to post
beast 1,884
yeah, i have had fun with moorhens over the years. all my collie crosses have been good for retrieving from water, and most have made decent feather dogs for live waterfowl too Quote Link to post
