Wasps

Has any one else been bothered by wasps? I just got back and my hutch had about 25 wasps flying round it and goin inside so i quickly grabbed the ferrets out when i checked the bed box there were a few wasps in and around the hay

is there any thing i can use to keep them away without harming my ferrets

Just bin the bedding, have you noticed this activity before? Be careful when binning it for obvious reasons.

haven't had any in the hutch yet, but I've noticed shitloads of them about this year. must be a good year for them.

Was talking to a customer who is pest controller while at work and he said business was booming cos of all the wasps , me personally haven't seen many by me

Not seen many wasps by me this year.

 

As for the bedding. There could be something on it that a attracting them too it. Change the bedding and see if it happens again. If it dose it could be the batch of straw that you have has something they like on it.

Take it your feeding them meat ? I had the same problem here feed later just as it's getting dark and remove the remains in the morning

No am feeding them dry am having to keep them in the house tonight there's even more wasps now do you no of anything to keep them away

There must be something of interest which is attracting the wasps. (Obviously!!)

 

What are wasps eating at the moment?

 

Whilst you have the ferrets out. Have a good clean out. All the nooks and crannies.

If that fails then move your hutch to try and divert their attention.

 

Try a wasp trap? You can easily make your own.

To add. It's possible they are after the dry wood inside the hutch to pulp for their nest.

Failing that put a lace curtain over the wire lets the air in and wasps out .The wasps only eat the meat in my hutches the ferrets ignore them and they dont seem to bother the ferrets

Ive noticed wasps at the side of my hutch, I think they chew the wood for building the nest but have had that amount or any inside the hutch!!

i put out a wasp trap today, must have 20 of the feckers in it. worked a treat. worth a try

At my mates land there was 5 hives within 200 yards. They took over every bird box and even made a hive in his old tractor. Bloody everywhere this year, i also had some at my sons house in the ventilation bricks

A trick I use is to put a bit of wasp powder in a jam-jar(to keep the powder confined) and put a bit of meat in it. Put it on top of the ferret cage. The jaspers go for the meat but don't make it back to the nest to tell their mates where it came from .

Very mild winter and the humidity this summer has served the little feckers well.rats and mice have all benefited from the mild winter.was on a golf course ferreting 2weeks ago and had to run out of the place with flying ants! Hundreds!
