Thanks lads for your replies.Delighted.The young lad swapped his couple of noisey hens for these younger ones. The funniest thing happened when we got a load of 6 to 7 week old chicks.The fella said they where all hens.Well 4 or 5 turned out cocks to our laughter as they indivdually matured and started to cock a doodle doo. Im in the middle of a council estate and most the neighbours kids are all grow up and moved out.Thanks again.ATB Ray

surely that is breed dependant and will happen in partridge or black red breeds but rir's are all red??
from what I've seen of rhode irland reds witches isn't much but theve always been black reds... Could be rong? But as pullets head small low comb?
