Tiercel 6,986
Fireman, Trout do live in the brackish water of the tidal reaches, they are commonly known as slob trout. Any river that has access to the open sea and has trout in the river will have a run of sea trout. Sea trout are a bit of a mystery really as they live their first years in the river as normal trout then some will smolt and go to the sea and others won't and will stay in the river as brown trout. That said, there does seem to be a difference with the amount of feed that the river can provide for trout, Hampshire chalk streams for example with their abundant feed do have runs of sea trout, but they are nowhere near as prolific as the spate rivers which have little feed for the growing trout. Spate rivers are made for salmon and sea trout, as the adult fish do not feed in the rivers and the amount of food taken by the parr is minimal. TC 2 Quote Link to post
