Feeding Ferret

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I have decided to feed dry food through out the summer

I normally feed minced chicken with chicks for a change

but I always have dry cat food as a supplement

Normally they dig out a large percentage of the dry food

onto the floor which they then decide to eat but there is

always some left in the shavings which gets wasted

That is OK with cheap cat biscuit but expensive ferret food

is different.

My question is has anybody else got the problem and if so

how did they solve it ? what dish, container etc.

Cheers

Sam

Yea I find this happens with young ferrets. They seem to grow out of it.

Mine just have big ceramic dog bowl.s..sometimes they like to stand in the bowl and crunch away theyve got one for water aaswell. All other bowls they would tip up.

Mine where the same seemed to show no interest in the dry grub but took great delight in tipping the bowls over seen them spend ten minutes trying to dig under a heavy bowl and the dry would lie in the shavings on the floor for two days and they still wouldn't touch it , easy to feed meat to them now all year with a wee bit of extra work in the summer

I have a 2 tiered cage. Bottom tier has shavings for where they shite and a separate sleeping area. Top floor I don't put shavings down, and that's where the food bowl is and the water bottles. So if they tip stuff out it can't get lost in amongst the shavings.

I have this problem, even my older jills do it from time to time. Im still thinking an idea through, Some 3 inch waste pipe with a 180` bend on the end, so its gravity fed. Idea being with a smaller bowl, and added weight from stored food higher than the edge of the bowl will make harder to dig in, aswell as keeping the moisture out a little. See a bigger homemade one for chicken food.

Google homemade pvc pipe chicken feeders, some awsome ones, just downsize..
