paulus 26
David Cameron has said that MPs will be handed a vote on whether to relax the hunting ban. The Prime Minister is known to be "sympathetic" to farmers who want the right to use packs of dogs to flush out foxes. Proponents of a change in the law have argued that the two dog limit is cruel because it means the foxes are pursued for longer before being shot. Speaking during Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Cameron was challenged on the issue by Labour Derby North MP Chris Williamson, who called on him to "end the speculation over the future of the Hunting Act". Mr Cameron said: "This will quite properly be a matter for the House of Commons. As he will know, what has happened is a group of members of Parliament have looked a particular problem of pest control in upland areas of Wales and other parts of the country. They are making a proposal. "That proposal will be properly examined by the department and in the end the House of Commons will be able to decide." The League Against Cruel Sports has opposed a change. The former Tory minister Ann Widdecombe has argued that it would be wrong for Parliament to get bogged down with an issue that people are not concerned about. But the Farmers' Union of Wales has argued that if "the Government increased the number of hounds we are allowed to use it would significantly reduce the number of lambs we lose".
