reminds me of an old mate john him and his mrs had twins john liked a beer to get the kids out the way of his mrs he used to take them down the pub in the summer most nights they`d be sat in the beer garden in the winter he`d take them and sit drinking in the golf club by the time they were 12 they`d be in the pub on the pool table never went on holiday johns idea of a 2 week holiday was a trip to the bookies and 4 hours in the pub --- i spoke to him at christmas he said he was embarressed by them he cant see maybe it was the error of his ways the lads are 27 now one`s an alkie the other a out n out piss head and dealer

 

I can't understand why guys have kids if they don't want them. Or is this the norm for them? Cos we enjoy different things, are we right and them wrong? I don't mean kids turning into alkies but not enjoying the outdoors. Maybe it's us that are the weirdos and they loved there childhood too. f**k knows, seems alien to me.

end of the day mate you only notice it cause its what you did when you were a wee kunt (some say you still are ) someone in to trainspotting as a kid would think the same about that, someone into football as a kid wpuld say the same etc etc......everyone is different and thats what makes the world go round......

It seems taking them to the zoo is there way of showing them animals. No imagination if you ask me, everything's got to be packaged for them, can't entertain themselves.

Baw my eldest (11)I can't get in a fekin field tried all his life he just ain't interested at all I took him out other month and I swear we had walked 100 metre with the gun and he gave up haha he hates it . My middle son loves being in the fields my dad has 10 acre and it's joined into hundreds more acres we have perm on and I can't get him home of a weekend or summer evening , when I was growing up my dad took me nesting on leyland trucks old test track then I spent countless hours there my eldest lives right next to it with his mum I asked him if he goes on with his mates and has he seen the deer he said " never been on it's just trees and grass and deer don't interest me " some people are just not interested

Ok bud, your the perfect guy to inform us since you have several kids into different things. Now n be honest please. Did you take them all out into the countryside since they were small and they've just turned there back on it? I understand kids losing interest but at least your kids have seen a deer lol, this guy wouldn't be able to tell a deer from a rhino.

Aye true mate. I wonder how many folk, even on here, have learned more from books and documentaries than they have from personal experience about our countryside. When I grew up you got taught hunting in the field, I never knew you got books on lurchers lol.

Interesting that we used to do all the things mentioned Tarzan swings along the dammy ,dams , guddlin for trout lol , lighting gorshee bushes lol great times used to love jumping the rocks down the beach , my parents never took me out or shown these things we just all used to get together and just be out door kids all the time , in the summer we would pitch up a one man tent and 3/4 of us used to crash in that what a laugh thinking back now , there was a place we used to go as well called the boarder hole an old quarry filled with water used to dive of the rock face 40/50 feet into it , used to spend weekends there pot noodles beans with sausages in it you no the tinned ones ? lived on that when we camped there very happy times growing up round our way ????

The temptations to stay in are greater now, you have the X-box live type thing were kids can "socialise" over the net whilst being Ronaldo or a navy SEAL. As a kid if I wanted to talk to my mates it was my bike or the phone box I have taken my lad into the country and have taught him how to fish since he was 5, which is when I met him. He used to walk 10 miles plus no probs and do night fishing in winter. When he was about 12, that was it, he totally lost interest. Its all the sanitised stuff he wants now, I've offered to teach him to spearfish, but he says he prefers the swimming pool. My dad retires this year and he used to be in the forces and loved it so this year we are packing a couple of packs and going into the country, camping were and when we can . I thought my son would love it as an adventure type thing but no, his reply was can I have some mates round when your away. My answer consisted of two words, the first beginning with F . When I was a boy, we lived in a town and my mum came from a naval city but her mum and dad were from the country and she made sure that I never lost touch with it, thanks mum and dad.

Im 25 had playstations growing up but was always out with the dogs, climbing trees makeing dens. I got a 5 year old and he loves being out up the mountain climbing trees getting tadpoles. He has a ipad plays on games but would rather be out up the fields keep and fit,its good for him learning of the countryside and wildlife

Even though we had TV there was nothing on in the day time and until computers came out it was simple, you had to make your own entertainment.

 

Also parents were a lot less worried about where the kids were and what they were doing, we were pretty much chucked out the house and left to our own devices. I think most of us would be too scared to let our kids go roaming where ever they pleased nowadays.
