baldockbanks courser 598
With numbers of rabbits being 48% down through out England in the last 20 years and I'd say more like % in the east and south east, why does anyone breed the likes of the whippet greyhound or the collie greyhound or whippet? I'm not knocking either cross it's just if a jobs redundant what's the point. now I know some like chasing plastic bags at shows etc but this is more a question for the working lurcher owner. I know people are going to quote the hunting act but the humble rabbits in big trouble, spots that used to move with rabbits are now wildlife desertand and the idiot bullet rifle owners don't help with what's left. I know we're not allowed but what needs controlling is the invasive grey squeral, mink and munt jac. If my dogs wernt allrounders thed never get enough work. I for one are very sad to see the rabbits decline. 1 Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
That's like saying why do people still go ferreting. Plenty of rabbits about if you know where to look Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Lurcher work is f****d enough as it is. Without rabbits.... It's proper f****d! 3 Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
People who say there are still plenty of rabbits..... Hadn't been to the places they are thinking of in past times. Even the 'hot' spots aren't a patch on what they were.... 1 Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,735
You are right fellahs,..rabbit numbers are at a low ebb ,..but,.I believe that a couple of good warm dry Summers should see them, breeding like rabbits,.. and hopefully we will all be back in business once again,...and until that happy day arrives,..we must 'keep on keepin on',.and stick with our specialist bred,..coney catchers... All the best, Phil.. Edited January 19, 2014 by Phil Lloyd 9 Quote Link to post

baldockbanks courser 598
Why a 28 inch allrounder? I got 1 that's 25, 25 is perfect for any quarry if the heart is there. I just like to have the opportunity to slip on what's there. I don't think it's down to the weather, it's got to be vhd, from what I've herd. Quote Link to post

morton 5,367
The thing I tend to do,land that holds the least I leave alone and concentrate my efforts elsewhere, until the land recovers, not always possible if others don,t share my sympathetic outlook, rabbit numbers always seem to ebb and flow, thus always have a mutt available to reap the harvest. 2 Quote Link to post

TOMO 24,775
Men still kept rabbity type lurchers in the 50,s when rabbits were desimated because of mixy,,, I think there would have to be no rabbits at all,, for men to change ,,,tell you what balldocks,,, your game would be fecked if us rabbit boys take your sport over.... Show you what a real man with a proper mooching cur can do,,,, 4 Quote Link to post
baldockbanks courser 598
Would you see dead rabbits on top dead with vhd? It really saddens me to see farmers put r p fencing every were and people shooting rabbits and fox ( he must struggle too for dinner) for no real reason as what there is don't really do any damage and there struggling as it is. It won't happen but I'd like to see night vision band, what's sporting in pitting such technology against animals? The public could never understand the respect most of us hold for the rabbit. 4 Quote Link to post
baldockbanks courser 598
Tomo iv seen them rabbits on your gate! I'd have a rabbit Dog too if I had access to that ground! I used to be able to take good numbers and have dogs that are no better than others but they love a hard night on rabbits but these last 3 years iv hardly took any double figure bags and that's not because my dogs are worse. If you rabbit lads started coursing that wouldn't fu#k it, police, labour money and the dog thief's have done that. I don't go coursing anymore I just can't be bothered to change my name!!
