sandymere 8,263
Sound like it could be air under the skin, called surgical emphysema.or crepitus. Usually happens when there is a cut near a joint and when the joint articulates it sucks the air in under the skin but can be second to infection. You need to sort the underlying cause and decide if it needs intervention. edit to addd link although this is a bad case http://dogscatskidslife.blogspot.co.uk/2005/11/subcutaneous-emphysema-in-canine.html Edited January 10, 2014 by sandymere

Squirrel_Basher 17,102
A rule of thumb for this is to feel it it for heat .If the area is warm like the rest of the body a massage will usually correct it with rest ,gentle excercise. If its hot then rest the dog ,full rest no excercise until its right .If its cool or cold to touch then needs to be looked at as may be the sign of internal bleeding .Either way mate keep an eye on it especially if the dog favours that quarter.
