Please Help Need Info (Mk1 Bsa Super10)

Recommended Posts

I recently bought an S10 which is the gun the BSA R10 was designed to replace. Many BSA fans believe the S10 has better build quality and is more reliable. Drawbacks are that it is heavy, lacks a quick-fill and pressure gauge, although these can be bought now as accessories. Both guns are regulated and if well-sorted have outstanding shot-to-shot consistency and accuracy.

If you do a Google on BSAOG (forum dedicated to BSA airguns) there's lots of info on the S10. The technical expert on S10s there goes by the monicker Rancid Tom. He is a helpful guy who will always provide info and advice and he also tunes S10s (FAC required for power above 12ftlbs). A 'Rancid' tune is a good way to go (my own choice) and John Bowkett provides a 'blue-printing' service which also guarantees better than 'out of the box' performance. Both have their followers and both are very good and both will deliver an excellent gun in top shape.

Hope that helps.

If the gun is tuned so that it is below 12 ft lb (as long as it was below 12 ft lb originally) no licence will be required.

A word of caution about RT tunes. John Bowkett's work is guaranteed for life! Literally. As long as another gunsmith has not altered any of the work that JB has done the gun is under warranty.

John Bowkett is also the man who designed the Super 10. Who would you rather have tune your gun, the man who designed it or someone who has gained knowledge of it after the fact?

About the gun. It is a Multishot with a 10 chamber magazine system. The Magazine has an indexing system which is operated by the cocking bolt. It has a 2 stage adjustable trigger. The gun is a regulated air gun with a fill pressure of 232 bar. This will give over 100 shots in .22! It has the BSA cold hammered barrel which is USUALLY not pellet fussy and very accurate.

The major differences notable to the S10 is the stocks!

It is available in rifle or carbine length. The carbine non shrouded rifle is always sold with a silencer, as otherwise the barrel is shorter than the end of the air bottle!

Hi dwibzy. The SuperTEN is one of the best PCPs that BSA has made. The SuperTEN is like an 1860's Mississippi steam riverboat. No gauges. You judge pressure by pellet drop. The MKI has only a few slight differences from the later marks. Have read that the MKII is the most desirable. Like the MKIII better myself.

Having John Bowkett work on your SuperTEN would be like having John Moses Browning work on your Browning Superimposed shotgun. Have talked to the man on the phone, very amiable, but the price from StL to Brum was a bit steep. Have had transatlantic dealings with RT and believe him to be of unquestioned integrity. RT also competes with a BSA SuperTEN MKII(or is it a SuperONE?). Can't go wrong either way.

Here in the Midwest AZ in Iowa is the best tuner for the BSA. There may be others, but not aware of who they are.

Though cumbersome, the SuperTEN has good accuracy. Have read on forums that lot of people have bought SuperTENS. The shooter that sold theirs always seem to regret it. Eventually you may get a Huntsman Regal or a Rapid MFR, but you might want to hold on to a good SuperTEN. Nobody here in Missouri knows what a SuperTEN is. Probably think that it is a lottery ticket of some sort.

Peace, hope this helps,
