Micro/grey Ferret Problem!!!!!

So what's the advantage of a micro ferret over a normal size one ?

 

I've been ferreting for 60+ years and have had all types

and colours of ferrets the so called micro ferret is nothing but a fad

as is the colours of the ferrets or the colour of their eyes.

You can name the micro ferret as a runt because thats how

they came about breed one runt to another and eventually

you get micros.

Some say they are better because they don't disturb nets so much

the locator still catches on the nets,some say they don't kill in

if they came upon a big buck it could do some serious damage to

any ferret especially a micro.

A ferret is a ferret is a ferret and all special made up names for them

is a load of crap.

Come on guys, I don't get it. Whether he has a special strain of ferret or not the guy is clearly looking for a bit of advice and not looking for an argument. At the end of the day we all come on here as part of our leisure time and to help with any problems we might encounter as well as a bit of socializing. We are under attack from other sources outside our sport, we don't need to start having a pop at each other at every given opportunity.

At the end of the day we all love our dogs, birds, ferrets, guns or whatever so why not support each other rather than trying to inflate our own ego's or enforce our own opinions or "superior" knowledge onto another without being asked!

I have always believed micro's and the like were runts but I am certainly open to the fact that there may be specialised strains out there somewhere, after all just because I haven't seen them doesn't make them the stuff of the imagination. I haven't seen a lot of things in this life but I am sure there are plenty of things out there that could surprise me still. Also, I haven't seen his stock first hand whether working or not so for all we know they could be far superior and advanced to our stinkers.

Opinions are fine but lets not attack each other and try and keep it civilised, otherwise no one will ever bother asking for help.

The answer to his original question has been answered already by a few members..

 

I lost one of my Jills last year in and its a very worrying thing when your normally happy little fert is looking bad. . . They do run themselves ragged looking after the kits and I can see how this might have been the case here. . .If she does the same thing again after you have fed her and the kits up on some good grub.Well then its time for the vets.

 

Also it would'nt hurt to maybe give a light course of antibiotics,just incase she has an infection of any kind ? (crushed up and dissolved in drinking water).not sure if this would do the kits any harm ? ( expert advice needed on that one )

 

Check her teats to make sure there not going hard.

 

Get the kits on some flesh meals to take the strain off the Jill.

 

Weigh her and keep a check on her weight..

 

The vets usually know Fek all when you go see them..and all they will do is weigh em and maybe give them an antibiotic injection. and then the next option is to open them up for further investigations.. Which usually means lumps/blockages and not a very good outcome most of the time.

 

This place is probably a better place to ask a question before the Vets.

She is a Pygmy polecat ..............

Actually Vin,.there was a brace of these diminutive wee poleys,...I bred them,.. in my yard .

They were off Sock's Four Toes ...and a Dark Polecat dog,..that came from an unwise breeding program, twixt a Micro ferret and a half wild Poley,.. .

 

There was only four kits in the litter, two big un's and two weenies.

I gave Mouse , plus her larger sister, to Socks and I retained a pair for myself.

 

Both of the dinky 'un's worked superbly and they bolted a lot of rabbits,.. but, I found mine, to be a tad on the flighty side for my liking, so gifted her,.. to a Hawking buddy.

 

Personaly,.I feel that the Dam of these ferrets, was the reason for their working abilities,..

I've hunted with her on numerous ocassions and in truth,..she is an extremely valuable critter.

 

The reason I was using Four Toes to breed a litter , was because I had borrowed her mother,(an even vastly superior animal) .. then due to a foolish incident,...unfortunately, lost her .........

 

I told Socks what had occured, .... it was emotional...

After he had got over the loss,...he thought it best, if I was to feck off back to Hampshire,.. but, take her home with me, and breed some much needed replacements....which I did...

 

Hopefully one day,..in the years to come, I might possibly be forgiven...
