Buzzard Hovering

Recommended Posts

I posted exactly the same sort of thread in the BoP section last year after I saw one hovering for the first time, they can do it and they can do it surprisingly well. Whether its only certain ones which learn the behaviour or they can all do it, I don't know because I've seen buzzards all my life and never saw one hover until last year. Maybe its a behavior they've reverted to with the population being so high? When there wasn't so many about there would have been more to scavage so a high energy flapping manuvoure wouldn't have been the most efficent way of looking for food.. :hmm:

Have seen a few do 'proper' hovering, and many just 'hanging' on an updraft or thermal.

Apparantly, those that can actually hover pass on the knack to their offspring, so the numbers of Buzzard seen hovering is on the increase.

Well, that's what I heard, anyway.
