Opinions Fron More Experianced Terrier Men

Recommended Posts

I'm after a bit advice or let's say guidence, iv got a Lakeland terrier dog pup just gone 7 month old and I'm wanting to get him a few rats and wanting him to start bushing.

The pup done his leg in and could not walk for weeks and it took him few month before he started to put weight on it and he lost all muscle mass so iv been lead walking him to build the muscle in his leg and now it seems spot on so iv nor realy had him out thro the bushes but I am hoping to get him started mooching in the next week or so.

As fir ratting that is one of the main reasons I got the dog as I keep a small lurcher (saluki type) and a few mates have terriers and small lurchers (bedlington whippet) and we all want to get into ratting but at the moment we have no permission or ways to travvel but have a chicken farm close to hone but he didn't want anyone on his land. There is q few other farms but how would I go about obtaining some permission and also if I did obtain some permission for rats would it be the right time to start my lakie pup ?

dress smartly, speak polite and go knock on a few farmers doors, ime sure they would let you do the rats for them. and don't be put of to easily if you get a few knock backs, funny breed them farmers. good luck. oh ratting a year long season anytime,

Ali is right in his permo advice Jcm and don't worry about starting your Lakie pup, I had one break its front leg at around six months which put it out of action for a good while, the little bugger started like a house on fire and never stopped till he went at around 12 years old, leg never bothered it after, most agile terrier i've owned by a mile...!

Lakies usually make quick starters, especially on rats but not everyone is the same. He'll go when he's ready...

Maybe get some headed paper or cards with a name like "jmc pest control services" on it and offer some free pest control for all furry pests, like Alli says dress smart.be polite and if they say no just say thank you but can i give you my card just in case for the future.Round my way in Norfolk most of the local farmers are inter mingled families(inbred cnuts to the rest of us)and the next farm is brother or cousin etc and when you get into one your onto the next a whole lot easier so when you get somewhere do tell the next farm that you do the pests for their neighbour and it might well sway them to give you a go.

JCM,most start off ratting on a local tip or the sides of streams and river banks,if the tips private have a word with the security guard and try and get on when its shut,we had great fun for years this way, regarding cards then "vistaprint" do the first 200 for nothing but make sure of what you put on them, don't tell lies about being insured and just be polite, age can be a factor with permission, farmers don't like young kids usually but once you get permission on one farm it normally leads to others,if you are lucky enough to get the nod off a farmer then be carefull who you take with you as farmers don't like gangs of lads just roaming everywhere and its easilly lost, good luck,WM
