pianoman 3,589
Bless him, he looks mad keen for it doesn't he! Greatest gift you can give to a youngster is this Mac, and yourself.....Time with him and his grandad! It's brought a bit of a lump to my throat that I was exactly like this too at his age; 8 years old and out with my dad, learning to shoot with an old Webley air rifle my Auntie had given me, in the garden and then, out into the fields with dad and his shotgun and .22 rimfire. No telescopic sights but, bags of ammo and open sight shooting rabbits out to what seemed miles away. It was entirely down to his time with me that prepared me well when I joined the RAF Regiment and became one of its snipers, later as one of its SNCO Joint Services Tactical Warfare Instructors and Examiners. All the lads who passed the courses had their dad's DNA in their blood and begun their shooting careers with their dads and grandfathers tuition in the hunting field. It is the worst thing that my dad is infirm and cannot shoot anymore now, poor lad. I can't give him that precious time back. It doesn't matter if there's nothing about right now, it's being out with him and getting him used to safely handling and shooting that's the main thing. I'm sure a lot of fellas here with sons and daughters should want to be out with their children like this, game or no game around. Summers coming and I'm looking forward to being out with Andy's young boys, Oscar and Toby for a day or two round the dairy farm again! Keep us informed of his progress Mac. Best wishes to you both.
