Hatchwell Seaweed Powder

Recommended Posts

Kelp Seaweed is a great source of all 37 Minerals and trace elements and ideal to add to working dog food. The most important thing is quality and I would recommend you get the best you can that is BHP standard. As quite simply there is allot of very low quality Kelp seaweed floating around.

I use it daily with my dogs who are fed a natural diet.

A example which is quite interesting is that SA37 is simply a man made version of Kelp Seaweed, but obviously Kelp Seaweed is a better way of feeding due to the facts its natural and better used by the body. You will also notice that many many foods add Kelp Seaweed to food stuffs to boost the Mineral content.

Its superb to increase coat growth help with strong nails and as I mentioned earlier superb way of supplying all 37 minerals and trace elements.

Working dog men have been using it for years as a conditioner to great effect.

Good luck Sirius

I expect this type of product hasn't enough active ingredients to good or harm but if the claim it has an effect for good then one would expect there equally it will have enough to do harm. Lets have a look .

A common claim is goes along the lines of, a dietary supplement to provides essential nutrients and go on about kelp a lot and unpolluted sources.

In everyday parlance Kelp is normally used to refer to (Phaeophyceae) in the order Laminariales (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laminariales ) which is a deep water specialist bearing great long fronds that can be 10s of metres in length, or at least this is what the average person might think of when think of "kelp" certainly no bladderwrack. So how some companies us use (Fucus vesiculosis)

(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fucus_vesiculosus ) which is bladderwrack, isn't that the common or garden tidal seaweed with the air bladder, that we all popped as children, this as we know grows in the less than pristine inshore tidal area.

It's suggested it can promotes dense coat growth and helps to maintain good pigmentation. I say can they tell us how it promotes hair growth, is there a study? Perhaps all those on THL with a receding hair line should take up seaweed eating?

As to pigmentation. Again can they show it improves pigmentation? I would doubt it.

They suggest doses but I would ask how much of the chemicals are actually in this dose, do they know? Dose it vary from batch to batch? Do they know?

They say its safe in pregnancy and lactation but hold on, it has been shown to have an effect on female hormones, plus it can act as an anticoagulant now either of these could lead serious problems. Do they know if these chemicals get through the placenta and alter/effect the developing foetus? Have they done anything to find out? If so can they supply evidence?

They suggest it's safe for puppies but what is the safe dose of iodine for very small pups, how much does the dose contain?

They say it can be given in conjunction with any other medication, wait a minute doesn't it have anticoagulant properties? Wouldn't there be lots of meds that would potentially have very serious interaction with an anticoagulant!

Then there's the warning from the National institute of health, USA, that suggest that bladderwrack is a high risk for contamination with heavy metals and as such "should always be considered potentially unsafe." They don't bother to tell us that!

So in conclusion it's claimed tov make fur grow/become denser which doesn't seem to have any basis in fact.

Then theres the claim about color, again wheres the evidence?

It could be said that they mislead by using the every day term for kelp but the scientific one for bladderwrack.

Dosage based on guess work?

But to my mind the serious ones are, any claim to safety in pregnancy without evidence of transference via the placenta and when it is known to have hormonal and anticoagulation properties.

Claiming no interactions with other medications without evidence yet known potential risk.

Failer to include any warning about heavy metals, or risks from iodine.

I would say I havent seen any real claims to aid health in any real terms which is good.
