is lamping hares easier than daytime?

Lamping Hares?.Best left to the daytime in my opinion.True test of a Lurcher

 

your correct there about daytime hares being the best test of a dog but what about us lot who do not keep saluki crosses and walk feilds for them during the daytime what about lamping dogs should you not slip your dog on a hare on the lamp because its not a true test for your dog. i bet you have slipped your dog on a hare on a plough feild were the hare cannot run its best but somehow it is ok because its "daytime"

 

it all depends on the dogs you run if you had a pure whippet or a half cross collie are they going to catch a daytime hare with any consistance? i think lamping hares would be spot for that. just because there lamped dont mean they just roll over and die i have seen quite a few 5 min courses on the lamp and some that of ended quicker than other just like daytime. they are mostly going to be a fractionly easier because its dark and the fact there is a dazzler in there face but as a said they dont just roll over and die...

 

First of all i don't run Saluki x's.Secondly i don't use my Lurcher to course Hares.Finally, when i pick up a Hare in the beam i switch the lamp off because there isn't a lot around my way and i like to see them about.

There is plenty of them about out last night and on 1 road I counted 48 hares. there easier and not much sport in lamping them at night,

i think everyone would agree that hares were generally a lot easier to take on the lamp.thats not to say that they cant give you a good run in the night either,it depends on lots of things .what i would say is some hares are very easy to take or preban were on the lamp but very rare is a daytime hare a easy take for a lurcher ..also imo if someone wants to run one on the lamp who is anyone else to say they cant or its wrong .i got my opinion on it,same as a anti has theirs but thats all it is my opinion

so you dont run them in the day and you dont lamp them either so in other words you just dont know....

down here we dont see them daytime and they aint easy on the lamp with all the gates and runs in the hedges

An old dog man said to me when I first started out that taking a hare on the lamp was like hitting mike tyson from behind with a baseball bat and saying you had beat him.

 

I now disagree. Of course they are easier on the lamp, alot easier, but still a good test for a dog in my opinion and I don't agree with people who say it is unsporting to take them on the lamp. One dog on one hare. Plenty get away to tell the tale.

I have seen hare run the beam, and a lurcher just runs up behind 1 stike and its all over! what a waste came to mind best to flick the lamp off and call the dog back come in day light+ pre-ban!

Mate; if you have seen "quite a few 5 min courses on the lamp", then I suggest you look at your watch for 5 minutes and see how long that actualy is.....or get better dogs !
