Gamekeepers and farmers have been urged to be on guard after thieves stole more than 1,000 pheasant chicks from a Norfolk farm.

Between 1,000 and 1,500 birds were taken from four sheds on a farm at Ormesby St Michael, near Great Yarmouth, between 9pm on Saturday June 23 and 5.30am on Sunday June 24.

Each shed housed around 800 four week old pheasants - a haul which could net the thieves more than £5,000.

The birds were all melanistic black and common pheasants.

The police are keen to speak with anyone that may have seen anything in relation to this incident.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Norfolk Constabulary on 0845 456 4567 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
