Scopes £ vs Quality

Recommended Posts

Have any of you had a look at the Vortex Viper PST? Front focal plane, MOA reticle, uncapped turrets seems to be pretty similar to the Nightforce NSX but at £1000 its half the price. Any thoughts on this scope appreciated.

I tested this scope for some time and I would say it is OK for the price since it is FFP scope, but the glass is disappointing for this price class. It is similar than other scopes made in Philipines for half the price. I would take Sightron SIII and time over Vortex Viper since it offers much better glass and would not mind SFP configuration. Illumination on Viper PST is also not suitable for hunting since the entire reticle is lid up and the illumination is too strong.

If you insist on FFP scope (I also prefer FFP) go with either Weaver Tactical (made in Japan) or spend a little more on IOR 3-18x42.

You can get a Zeiss conquest for around 550 to 600 pound. And there superb. Scopes like night force and khales are alot more. You will be surprized what the gunshop make on scopes these days. 1800 fo

basically in most products today you are paying for the name, such as clothing and things. however with scopes your not. your cheaper scopes are good for air rifles. but when you get upto the bigger c

Meopta Yours for around £400 / £500   Every bit as good as German glass.

Picking a scope is a very personal choice. I too am in the market for a scope but have decided to go a slightly different route. I have been looking to the USA as the prices are way cheaper than here, £300-£400 saved on the Sightron I have in mind. What usually kills the deal is companies not willing to export and the import duty imposed by customs once your item hits these shores. I have a cousin in California who I can have the scope sent to (Free shipping within continental USA) he will then repackage the scope and send it to me as a gift thus bypassing the duty. I have no idea of the % that duty is worked out on but looking at several dealers in the states who will export to the UK the prices make it too tempting. I have added some URLS for you to see the price differences.

I have personally used the last one before for accessories and it was well worth it as even factoring in the P+P I saved £80.

Good luck.

Sightrons have very similar prices in EU as in the states, so I think there is no reason to deal with Customs and etc.

De_Tomaso over a certain price for goods you still have to pay duty to bring things in from EU countries. I do not know what the limit is but I imagine it is not that much more than you have as a limit for non EU countries. I would be very interested in a comparison if you know of any good sites. Cheers

Checked out the

site and this how it compares for the 10x50x60 SIII Sightron, URL below

http://www.optics-trade.eu/shop/en/sightron-siii-tactical-10-50x60-lr-ir-moa.html according to the latest currency conversion rates that equals £1061 (http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert/?Amount=1303&From=EUR&To=GBP) without P+P

Johnny Sals sells the same scope for $1250 again without P+P but that equals £769 (http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert/?Amount=1250&From=USD&To=GBP) £1061 - £769 = £292 cheaper.

De_Tomaso are you sure about there being ZERO duty because I am sure that once you cross a certain amount of £££££'s duty applies and at £292 cheaper I still think I will take my chances buying from the states.

There is no duties between Countries of EU. This is the point of EU existence! ;)

I thought the point of the EU was for the UK to support all the Europeans who wanted to move here, and the ones that didn't we would simply pay VAST sums of money to the EU to support! :hmm::whistling:

How did we get here from the Thread Title? :hmm:
