Toe Amputation

Hi all,

 

Just recently my dog has sadly had to have a middle toe removed due to suffering with a corn & a ruptured tendon. I was just wondering if anyone else on here has experienced this with a dog before and what was the outcome? Do they run as good as before? Any info is much appreciated.

After several visits to many different vets and being referred backwards and forwards I was advised this was the last option by a greyhound specialist in Nantwich.

i hope it works fine for you but seen the toes next to the one removed go tendons drop and they carnt turn as well but touch wood your dogs fine

My mates dog has had a toe removed it works fine , it does limp on concrete as the nerve endings havent died off yet but still does the job to a high standard

one of my dogs in the past had a toe taken away on its front paw and never held it back in anyway it was better than the dog getting lame every time it ran was the best thing i done with the bitch

mine had a toe off on his front didnt bother him one bit at 1st but his midle toe has a big calas on it now and now he has a leg mising he is strugling a bit now so give god liver oil tablets for the joints

Mine had the toe end removed 5 weeks ago, been walking her since last wednesday with no probs

Just wondering if anybody can recommend a good vet around the sheffield area that's good with running dogs. Thanks

had a 5/8 grey 3/8 collie that had to have a toe of cost me £200 but the toe it had of was a front outer toe the dog was never the same turning etc he kept going lame on the leg with a bit of work think this was down to presure going on the other toes ended up the best thing to do was get him a good home as a pet the worst thing tho was the big dog loved working and seeing him left behind on a nights lamp etc was a real kick in the balls every time

I ran a dog that had a missing toe and it definately never affected her speed but her turning was poor.
